This spirulina pesto recipe adds nutrition to a kitchen staple.

½ cup pine nuts
4 cups chopped fresh basil
¾ cup olive oil
½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup fresh spirulina paste
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
2 cloves garlic, chopped

Steps:

  • Place pine nuts in a dry, nonstick pan over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant and golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer to a food processor.
  • Add basil, oil, Parmesan cheese, spirulina paste, salt, and garlic to the food processor; puree until you have a thick paste of desired consistency.

This pesto is quick to prepare and is an easy way to add the nutritional benefits of spirulina to a meal.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/3 cup pine nuts, roasted
4 cups fresh basil, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
3/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup fresh spirulina, paste
1 teaspoon salt (or add to taste)
1/3 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated

Steps:

  • Roast the pine nuts in a nonstick pan and set aside.
  • In a food processor add all the ingredients and puree until you have a thick paste. The pesto is ready to eat once intended consistency is achieved.
  • If freezing: Add all the ingredients to the blender except the Parmesan and puree until you have a thick paste. Freeze in a freezer bag. Before serving thaw pesto, return paste to blender, add the Parmesan and blend until all ingredients are combined.
