This dressing recipe comes from the Edgewood Resort in Alexandria Bay, New York, in the heart of the Thousand Islands region. It has been a favorite at the resort for years. Since I have vacationed in Alexandria Bay every Summer since my birth, I just had to post this recipe. I know, I know, there are a million versions of it out there... but this one is really authentic! It's from the Cornwall Recipe Book, published by the Alexandria Township Historical Society.

1 quart mayonnaise
1/2 cup chopped olive
3/4 cup sweet relish
1/2 cup diced red pepper
3 chopped hard-boiled eggs
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 dash ground cloves
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup vinegar

Steps:

  • Mix the above ingredients until well blended.
  • Chill and spoon over fresh greens.

10 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise, Best Food
1/3 cup catsup
1/3 cup relish, sweet pickled
salt
1 iceberg lettuce, large wedge
2 tomatoes, wedge
1 walla walla onion, thin sliced

Steps:

  • Combine eggs, mayonnaise, catsup, pickled relishes and salt ingredients in medium bowl and into the refrigerator for an hour.
  • Place the iceberg wedge onto each salad plate and tomatoes slice and onion on each side and top with Thousand Island dressing.

I find this to be quick to make and tasty. I use Veganaise, which is a dairy and egg free mayo, which I love. You can use any low fat mayo in its place. I prefer to use dill pickle relish, although you can use sweet pickle relish as well.

1/4 cup vegan mayonnaise or 1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 1/2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Place in small container, mix well.
  • Serve immediately or put in refrigerator. Lasts for about a week.

My mom's homemade dressing. Great in summer time when the weather is too hot for anything but a salad.

6 hard-boiled eggs
20 ripe olives, pitted
1 quart mayonnaise
1 cup catsup
8 ounces sweet relish
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon white pepper

Steps:

  • Chop up eggs and olives.
  • Mix with all other ingredients except mayonnaise.
  • Fold in Mayonnaise gently.
  • Keeps in refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

1 head iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 dash hot sauce, such as Tabasco
pepper
chips and pretzel, for serving (optional)

Steps:

  • Wash the lettuce and remove any damaged or wilted outer leaves. Remove the lettuce core and discard. Cut the head into quarters and set it aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and the ketchup. Add the hot sauce and pepper to taste. Place a lettuce wedge on each serving plate. Drizzle with the dressing. Also serve dressing with chips and pretzels!
