The Perfect Steak image

The New York Strip is one of the most popular beef cuts found at steakhouses. Its natural marbling makes it one of the most flavorful steaks to cook at home.

2 boneless New York strip steaks, 2 1/2 inches thick (about 1 1/2 pounds each)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
Vegetable-oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • Drizzle both sides of the steaks with olive oil; season with salt and pepper.
  • Prepare a charcoal or gas grill, arrange coals for direct cooking. Lightly coat rack with cooking spray. Coals should be glowing white.
  • Place the steaks on grill. For rare, cook 8 minutes per side; 10 minutes for medium rare. Let the meat rest 1 to 2 minutes, then serve.

4 1 1/4-to-1 1/2-inch-thick boneless rib-eye or New York strip steaks (about 12 ounces each) or filets mignons (8 to 10 ounces each), trimmed
2 tablespoons canola or extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • About 20 minutes before grilling, remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let sit, covered, at room temperature.
  • Heat your grill to high. Brush the steaks on both sides with oil and season liberally with salt and pepper. Place the steaks on the grill and cook until golden brown and slightly charred, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn the steaks over and continue to grill 3 to 5 minutes for medium-rare (an internal temperature of 135 degrees F), 5 to 7 minutes for medium (140 degrees F) or 8 to 10 minutes for medium-well (150 degrees F).
  • Transfer the steaks to a cutting board or platter, tent loosely with foil and let rest 5 minutes before slicing.

While searching for grilling recipes I found this recipe at "patiopalace.com" which stated this was from "Broil King OMC". Haven't tried it yet, but sounds very good so posting here til I get a chance to make it and will update this then. Update 2/23/12 - We really enjoyed this last night for dinner. We marinated a 1 3/4 lb Sirloin Steak for about 6 hours and the taste was wonderful. This takes just a minute to put together and with such great results, this will now be our new marinated steak recipe.

4 steaks, 1-inch thick (preferably New York Strip)
2 minced garlic cloves
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
fresh ground pepper
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil

Steps:

  • Trim excess fat from the steaks. In a glass dish or heavy plastic bag combine the remaining ingredients.
  • Marinate the steaks for 1 hour at room temperature or up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. If refrigerating, bring steaks close to room temperature 1/2 hour before grilling for more even cooking.
  • Preheat the barbecue on HIGH. Brush grids with olive oil. Grill steaks to your liking such as rare, medium etc.

Steps:

  • Mix 1 tablespoon butter with parsley, garlic and soy sauce., Sprinkle steak with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat remaining butter over medium heat. Add steak; cook until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°; medium-well, 145°), 4-7 minutes per side. Serve with garlic butter.
