Provided by Leah Maroney

Categories     Snack     Dessert

Time 47m

Number Of Ingredients 11

For the Cookies:
1 cup salted butter (cubed)
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon maple extract
1/4 cup heavy cream
For the Glaze:
10 ounces white melting candy wafers

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  • Add the butter, confectioners' sugar, flour, cinnamon, baking soda, maple syrup, maple extract, and heavy cream to the bowl of an electric stand mixer. It should pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Place the ball of dough onto a piece of plastic wrap, wrap it up, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a large sheet.
  • Use a toast-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookie shapes. Roll out the scraps and cut any remaining dough.
  • Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cookies are lightly golden and firm.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Place the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Melt in the microwave in 15-second increments, stirring in between each, until completely melted.
  • Dip the bottom of each cooled cookie into the white chocolate, tapping and shaking off any excess.
  • Flip the cookie over and place back on the parchment-lined baking sheet or a cooling rack. Set aside and allow the chocolate to harden and set. Serve with a cup of coffee or tea. Enjoy.

TOASTED-FLOUR COOKIES

Toasted-Flour Cookies image

Baking the flour in the oven first gives these butter cookies an irresistible nutty flavor. Serve alongside our Baked Apples.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes     Cookie Recipes

Yield Makes about 24

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 3/4 cups plus 1 tablespoon unbleached all-purpose flour
3 hard-cooked egg yolks
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
7 tablespoons unsalted butter, preferably European-style, room temperature
11 tablespoons salted butter, preferably European-style, room temperature
1 to 2 teaspoons cold water, as needed
1 large egg, lightly beaten
Ground ginger or cinnamon, for sprinkling (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1 3/4 cups flour in an even layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, stirring occasionally, until flour is a light caramel color and smells slightly nutty, 30 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • Pass egg yolks through a fine sieve into a large bowl. Add sugar, both butters, and remaining 1 tablespoon flour; mix until well combined and a dough forms. If dough doesn't hold together, add water as needed, a little at a time. Transfer dough to a piece of parchment; roll into a log about 1 3/4 inches in diameter. Refrigerate at least 2 hours and up to overnight.
  • Slice log into 1/2-inch-thick rounds; transfer to parchment-lined baking sheets, spacing 1 inch apart. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with ginger or cinnamon, if desired. Bake, rotating sheets halfway through, until cookies are golden brown around edges, 12 to 16 minutes. Transfer sheets to wire racks; let cool completely.
