TRAILER PARK TRASH PIGS IN A BLANKET
I saw a similar dish as an actual hot dog meal recipe at a local diner recently. The idea inspired me to create a Tailgate Party friendly finger food.

- Add 1 piece of hot dog and 1 strip of pickle to the top of each piece of pastry and roll, like you would a regular crescent roll.
- Sprinkle the top of each roll with Garlic Salt.

GRILLED SPIRAL PIGS IN BLANKETS
With just two main ingredients-hot dogs and prepared crescent dough-you'll have a hit for your next tailgate or picnic. All-beef hot dogs are a standby, but you can make these pigs in blankets with turkey, chicken or even veggie dogs.

Steps:
- Soak 6 wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes.
- Prepare a grill for indirect heat. (For a gas grill, turn one burner on each far side to medium heat and the middle burners to low; for a charcoal grill, bank the coals on one side of the grill.) A grill thermometer should read 325 to 350 degrees F.
- Tear off a long piece of foil and fold into thirds so it's about the size of a baking sheet. Spray the foil with cooking spray.
- Push the hot dogs onto the skewers so the hot dogs are flush with the top. Use a sharp paring knife to cut a spiral (4 or 5 rings total) along the hot dog, cutting all the way down to the skewer. Gently pull the hot dog down to open up the spiral.
- Unwrap the crescent dough. Cut it crosswise into 6 pieces. Roll each piece into a snake 8 to 9 inches long. Press one snake into the cut spaces in each spiral, wrapping it as you go and tucking in the ends.
- Set the foil on the indirect (low) heat part of the grill and add the hot dogs, leaving some space between each. Grill, covered, until the bottoms of the dogs are golden and top of the dough is set, 5 to 6 minutes. Flip the skewers and cook until the bottom is browned again, 5 to 6 minutes more. Flip once more to an unbrowned side and grill until the dough is cooked through, 5 to 6 minutes more.
- Transfer the pigs in blankets to a platter and serve with ketchup and mustard.

TWO-INGREDIENT DOUGH PIGS IN A BLANKET
Two ingredients are all you need to make the homemade dough for these pigs in a blanket that will be the hit of your next party. I like to serve with mustard dipping sauce but BBQ sauce and cheese dip are good too.

PIGS IN A BLANKET
Kids love this one. My mom made it for me as did her mom. If making for a small child, cut the hot dogs into fourths length wise. The cheese is always optional.

Steps:
- Cut hot dogs lengthwise 3/4 of the way through. Insert a piece of cheese or 1/2 teaspoon caramelized onions into each hot dog, if using; set aside. If not using cheese or onions, poke hot dogs several times with the tip of a knife.
- On a lightly floured work surface, working with one sheet of puff pastry at a time, roll into a 14-by-11-inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into seven 1 1/2-inch wide strips. Cut each strip crosswise into 4 rectangles, each about 3 1/2 inches long.
- In a small bowl, beat together egg and 1 tablespoon water; set aside. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat; set aside. Place a hot dog on the narrow end of one piece of pastry. Roll to enclose, brushing with some of the beaten egg to adhere; transfer to prepared baking sheet. Repeat process with remaining hot dogs and pastry. Brush the tops of puff pastry with egg and sprinkle with seeds, if using. Transfer to refrigerator and let chill for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Transfer baking sheets to oven and bake until puffed and golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool briefly before serving with mustard and ketchup.

- Pigs in a Blanket on the Grill. If you don’t have access to a campfire or prefer cooking over a grill, you can still make Pigs in a Blanket. Prep your Pigs in a Blanket as you normally would, but instead of using a stick, place your Pigs about two inches apart on foil over the grill.
- Pigs in a Blanket with Beer Cheese. You had us at beer. And then again at cheese. Whip up some beer cheese for the perfect pigs and a blanket fondue. We like this recipe from Better Homes and Gardens for the beer cheese.
- Pigs in Pizza Dough. While most people opt to use Crescent rolls, pizza dough works just as well. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your own pizza dough, but store-bought pizza dough is perfectly fine, too.
- Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket. Pancakes are easy to make in a skillet over a campfire. Just mix up your favorite pancake batter while roasting your sausage.
- Dates in a Blanket. Not everyone is a meat eater and that’s okay. We have a “pigs” in a blanket recipe for you! Instead of sausage, you can use dates. For a sweet treat, mix chopped dates with cream cheese, cinnamon, sugar, and a dash of salt.
