TRAILER PARK TRASH PIGS IN A BLANKET

Trailer Park Trash Pigs in a Blanket image

I saw a similar dish as an actual hot dog meal recipe at a local diner recently. The idea inspired me to create a Tailgate Party friendly finger food.

Provided by Melanie B.

Categories     Kid Friendly

Time 25m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 hot dogs, your favorite variety cut in half
1 (8 ounce) can crescent rolls, the refrigerated variety
8 tablespoons Cheese Whiz
8 large potato chips, crumbled
1 cup chili, use your favorite
1 large pickle, sliced into thin slices
2 teaspoons garlic salt

Steps:

  • Unroll the 8 crescent rolls. Place a TBS of Cheese Whiz lengthwise down the center of each roll. Sprinkle potato chips along center of crescent roll lengthwise.
  • Add 1 piece of hot dog and 1 strip of pickle to the top of each piece of pastry and roll, like you would a regular crescent roll.
  • Sprinkle the top of each roll with Garlic Salt.
  • Bake according to crescent roll package instructions.
  • Serve with chili of choice at a tailgate party or any other occasion of choice.

GRILLED SPIRAL PIGS IN BLANKETS

Grilled Spiral Pigs in Blankets image

With just two main ingredients-hot dogs and prepared crescent dough-you'll have a hit for your next tailgate or picnic. All-beef hot dogs are a standby, but you can make these pigs in blankets with turkey, chicken or even veggie dogs.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 35m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 hot dogs
One 8-ounce tube crescent dough
Nonstick cooking spray
Ketchup and yellow mustard, for serving

Steps:

  • Soak 6 wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes.
  • Prepare a grill for indirect heat. (For a gas grill, turn one burner on each far side to medium heat and the middle burners to low; for a charcoal grill, bank the coals on one side of the grill.) A grill thermometer should read 325 to 350 degrees F.
  • Tear off a long piece of foil and fold into thirds so it's about the size of a baking sheet. Spray the foil with cooking spray.
  • Push the hot dogs onto the skewers so the hot dogs are flush with the top. Use a sharp paring knife to cut a spiral (4 or 5 rings total) along the hot dog, cutting all the way down to the skewer. Gently pull the hot dog down to open up the spiral.
  • Unwrap the crescent dough. Cut it crosswise into 6 pieces. Roll each piece into a snake 8 to 9 inches long. Press one snake into the cut spaces in each spiral, wrapping it as you go and tucking in the ends.
  • Set the foil on the indirect (low) heat part of the grill and add the hot dogs, leaving some space between each. Grill, covered, until the bottoms of the dogs are golden and top of the dough is set, 5 to 6 minutes. Flip the skewers and cook until the bottom is browned again, 5 to 6 minutes more. Flip once more to an unbrowned side and grill until the dough is cooked through, 5 to 6 minutes more.
  • Transfer the pigs in blankets to a platter and serve with ketchup and mustard.

PIGS IN A BLANKET

Pigs in a Blanket image

This tasty recipe for pigs in a blanket is a Super Bowl party favorite -- and great everyday snack.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Appetizers

Yield Makes about 4 1/2 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 pounds (about 60) mini hot dogs
Cheddar cheese, cut into small pieces, optional
Caramelized Onions for Pigs in a Blanket, optional
1 large egg
All-purpose flour, for work surface
1 box (17 1/2 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed
Poppy, sesame, or mustard seeds, optional
Mustard, for serving
Ketchup, for serving

Steps:

  • Cut hot dogs lengthwise 3/4 of the way through. Insert a piece of cheese or 1/2 teaspoon caramelized onions into each hot dog, if using; set aside. If not using cheese or onions, poke hot dogs several times with the tip of a knife.
  • On a lightly floured work surface, working with one sheet of puff pastry at a time, roll into a 14-by-11-inch rectangle. Cut lengthwise into seven 1 1/2-inch wide strips. Cut each strip crosswise into 4 rectangles, each about 3 1/2 inches long.
  • In a small bowl, beat together egg and 1 tablespoon water; set aside. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat; set aside. Place a hot dog on the narrow end of one piece of pastry. Roll to enclose, brushing with some of the beaten egg to adhere; transfer to prepared baking sheet. Repeat process with remaining hot dogs and pastry. Brush the tops of puff pastry with egg and sprinkle with seeds, if using. Transfer to refrigerator and let chill for 15 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Transfer baking sheets to oven and bake until puffed and golden, about 20 minutes. Let cool briefly before serving with mustard and ketchup.

PIGS IN A BLANKET: 8 FUN WAYS TO ENJOY A CAMPFIRE FAVORITE

Estimated Reading Time 3 mins
  • Pigs On a Stick. Nothing beats cooking a hot dog over an open flame! Cooking Pigs in a Blanket with a stick is the way to go when you’re sitting around a campfire.
  • Bacon-Wrapped Cheesey Pigs. Because everything is better with bacon and cheese: If you’re looking to add a little more favor to the traditional Pigs in a Blanket, add these two standbys.
  • Reuben Pigs. Mix up some sauerkraut and relish for a tangy twist. If you love reubens, and you love hot dogs, your mind might explode over these reuben style Pigs in a Blanket.
  • Pigs in a Blanket on the Grill. If you don’t have access to a campfire or prefer cooking over a grill, you can still make Pigs in a Blanket. Prep your Pigs in a Blanket as you normally would, but instead of using a stick, place your Pigs about two inches apart on foil over the grill.
  • Pigs in a Blanket with Beer Cheese. You had us at beer. And then again at cheese. Whip up some beer cheese for the perfect pigs and a blanket fondue. We like this recipe from Better Homes and Gardens for the beer cheese.
  • Pigs in Pizza Dough. While most people opt to use Crescent rolls, pizza dough works just as well. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can make your own pizza dough, but store-bought pizza dough is perfectly fine, too.
  • Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket. Pancakes are easy to make in a skillet over a campfire. Just mix up your favorite pancake batter while roasting your sausage.
  • Dates in a Blanket. Not everyone is a meat eater and that’s okay. We have a “pigs” in a blanket recipe for you! Instead of sausage, you can use dates. For a sweet treat, mix chopped dates with cream cheese, cinnamon, sugar, and a dash of salt.
