Homemade Thousand Island Salad Dressing image

We love using Thousand Island dressing for salads, dips and sandwiches. It can be made with chili sauce or ketchup, but I like chili sauce because it gives the dressing a little kick. Once you've tried this homemade recipe, you'll never go back to bottled. -Angelia Sukala, Williamsburg, Pennsylvania

1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chili sauce
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash pepper

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, whisk all ingredients until blended. Refrigerate two hours before serving.

  • Add pickle relish and stir to combine. The relish may add liquid but if the dressing is too thick, add a few more tablespoons of water. NOTE: if you want to use the dressing for sandwiches or burgers, don't thin as much.
  • Refrigerate in a covered container and chill for several hours to blend flavors. Can be stored up to a week.
