VEGETARIAN SEITAN "HOT WINGS" RECIPE



Vegetarian Seitan

If you like hot wings or buffalo wings, try this vegetarian (and vegan) version of hot wings made from seitan!

Olive oil
1 pound seitan (torn or cut into chunks)
1/4 cup hot sauce (Frank's Red Hot buffalo sauce is a classic choice)
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 cup lime juice
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

Hot Cauliflower Wings image

Spicy and crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Serve these cauliflower wings with a vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing.

1 small head cauliflower, broken into small florets
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 cups almond milk, or as needed
½ cup bread crumbs, or as needed
2 ounces vegan margarine (such as Earth Balance®)
1 (8 ounce) bottle hot pepper sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, paprika, salt, and pepper together. Add enough almond milk to create a slightly thick, soupy texture.
  • Place bread crumbs in a shallow bowl. Dip cauliflower pieces one at a time into the batter, then roll in bread crumbs. Place on the prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until starting to brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • While 'wings' are baking, melt margarine and whisk together with hot sauce.
  • Reduce oven temperature to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Dip 'wings' into the sauce and place back on the cookie sheet; continue baking for 10 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

4 pounds chicken wings
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup tomato-based hot pepper sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar-based hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor or indoor grill to a high heat. Lightly grease the grill.
  • Season wings with garlic powder and ground black pepper. Cook wings on the preheated grill until they are very crispy. Turn the wings frequently as they will burn easily.
  • While the wings are grilling, in a large bowl, combine both hot sauces with garlic powder, Parmesan cheese and melted butter.
  • When the wings are finished cooking, place them in the large bowl of hot sauce mixture and stir until they are coated.

Yummy veg hotwings. If you want them to be vegan, then you can use vegan margarine. They're amazing, and one of my favorite foods.

1 (16 ounce) package seitan (cut into wing sized pieces) or 1 (16 ounce) package Quorn tenders
1 teaspoon margarine
3 ounces louisiana hot sauce
2 ounces habanero sauce
1 tablespoon lime juice
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon garlic (minced)
1 (1 ounce) packet dried Italian salad dressing mix
1/2 ounce of louisianna hot sauce
1/2 ounce habanero sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon light margarine
1 teaspoon instant minced onion

Steps:

  • Place seitan pieces and melted margarine in large, ziplock, freezer bag with rest of ingredients and shake well.
  • Let marinate for 20 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • Take seitan out of excess sauce(Save excess sauce for reduction sauce) and put pieces on baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes on 350 (turn them mid-way through).
  • Reduction Sauce:.
  • Melt margarine in sautee pan and add excess marinade.
  • Add the 1/2 ounce of both habanero and Louisiana hotsauce, incorporate.
  • Stir in brown sugar and minced onions.
  • Once the sauce becomes syrupy either remove from heat and serve on the side of the hotwings, or add hotwings to the pan, stir everything together, and serve the wings pre-sauced.

i haven't tried this yet. saving for safekeeping. i don't usually like cauliflower but this seems different enough to be tasty. i'm told this works fine with gluten-free flour and/or soy milk if desired. a cup of hot sauce seems like an awful lot to me. i'll probably start with less. i'd also like to incorporate jack cheese into this somehow but haven't figured it out yet. i'll adjust after i've tried it. i see no reason you couldn't do this with bbq sauce or whatever instead

1 cup 1% low-fat milk
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 head cauliflower (chopped into pieces)
1 cup buffalo wing sauce or 1 cup hot sauce
1 tablespoon olive oil (melted) or 1 tablespoon margarine (melted)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  • Combine the milk, flour, and garlic powder in a bowl and stir until well combined.
  • Coat the cauliflower pieces with the flour mixture and place in a shallow baking dish. Bake for 18 minutes.
  • While the cauliflower is baking, combine your buffalo sauce and olive oil or margarine in a small bowl.
  • Pour the hot sauce mixture over the baked cauliflower and continue baking for an additional 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Serve alongside blue cheese or ranch dressing and celery sticks.
