BBQ WESTERN BACON BEER CAN BURGER

BBQ Western Bacon Beer Can Burger image

Provided by Jeff Mauro, host of Sandwich King

Categories     main-dish

Time 50m

Yield 4 burgers

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80/20)
1 unopened beer can
Cooking spray
12 slices aged yellow Cheddar
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 cup sauteed mushrooms
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 jalapeno, sliced thin on the bias
4 onion rolls, buttered and griddled

Steps:

  • Preheat a gas grill to medium heat (300 degrees F). Leave one side of the grill off for indirect heat.
  • Separate the ground chuck into 4 equal balls (about 6 ounces each). Wrap the beer can with aluminum foil and spray with a bit of cooking spray. Firmly press the bottom of the can into one of the balls, forming a "meat bowl." Gently slide out the can, then seal any cracks in the meat and make sure the sides of the bowl are even. Repeat with the remaining balls.
  • Place a slice of Cheddar in each meat bowl, followed by about a tablespoon of barbecue sauce, 1/4 cup of the sauteed mushrooms, some of the crispy crumbled bacon, 2 more slices of cheese and 4 jalapeno slices.
  • Place the burgers on the indirect heat side of the grill, close the lid and grill until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F and the cheese is bubbly and gooey, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Place the burgers on the onion rolls, eat and enjoy!

Western Barbecue Burgers are basted with barbecue sauce and topped with American cheese, grilled onions and bacon.

Provided by Christin Mahrlig

Categories     Main Dish

Time 27m

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 pounds ground chuck
1/4 cup Kraft Barbecue Sauce, (any flavor)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup Kraft Barbecue Sauce for basting
2 sweet or yellow onions, (cut into 1/2-inch slices)
Olive Oil
6 slices American cheese
12 slices bacon, (cooked)
6 buns
6 lettuce leaves
2 tomatoes, (sliced)
pickle slices

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef, 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well. Shape into 6 patties. Refrigerate until grill is ready.
  • Heat gas grill to medium-high. Lightly coat onion slices with oil and salt and pepper. (Note: You can stick a wooden skewer through each onion slice to hold it together. Wooden skewers should be soaked in water beforehand.)
  • Grill onion slices over direct heat for 3 minutes per side. Then move them to one side of grill and turn heat to low on that side. Baste them with barbecue sauce and remove them from grill when they are soft and charred.
  • Lightly sprinkle burger patties with salt and pepper and place on the grill for 3 to 5 minutes. Flip over and continue to grill for about 3 minutes. Baste the tops with barbecue sauce. Top each burger with a slice of American cheese just before removing from grill. (Internal temperature should be 160 degrees.)
  • Place lettuce and tomato slices on buns, top with burgers, onions, bacon, and more barbecue sauce.

Time 25m

Yield 4 burgers

Number Of Ingredients 23

1 large carrot, grated
1/2 small head green cabbage, cored and finely shredded (about 2 cups)
1/2 small white onion, grated
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons sugar
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon ancho chile powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Canola oil, for brushing
1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80 percent lean)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 brioche buns, split
8 slices white American cheese
1/2 cup store-bought BBQ sauce, such as Spicy Bone-Suckin' Sauce, or homemade
Sliced pickled jalapenos, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat a gas or charcoal grill to high. Brush the grill grates with oil.
  • For the coleslaw: Combine the carrot, cabbage, onion, vinegar, mayonnaise, oil and sugar in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the slaw sit at least 15 minutes before serving.
  • For the spice rub: Whisk together the ancho chile powder, paprika, coriander, cumin, mustard powder, oregano, cayenne and 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a small bowl.
  • For the burgers: Divide the meat into 4 equal portions (about 6 ounces each). Shape each portion with your hands into a round patty, about 3/4 inches thick. Use your thumb to make a divot in the center of each burger. Sprinkle both sides of each burger with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the spice rub on one side of the burgers then brush with oil. Grill, spice rub-side down first, covered, until golden brown and slightly charred, about 4 minutes per side for medium.
  • While the burgers cook, toast the buns on the grill until lightly charred, 10 to 15 seconds. Set aside.
  • Add 2 slices of cheese to the tops of each burger. Cover the burgers with the grill lid, large domed lid or large metal bowl and count to 10 until the cheese is melted.
  • Place the burgers on the bottom buns and spoon about 2 tablespoons of the BBQ sauce on each. Top with the sliced pickled jalapenos, some of the coleslaw and the top buns and serve immediately.

  • Thinly slice onion. (The slices should be thin enough that you should be able to see the knife through the end of the onion where you're slicing). Place onion slices in a shallow dish and pour buttermilk over the onions. Move them around so they are all in the buttermilk, but they don't have to be completely covered. Let them soak for about 10 minutes. (Use this time to cook your bacon or slice your avocados!)
  • In bowl combine flour, salt, garlic power, paprika, and cayenne pepper and wish until well mixed. Dip the onions in the flour mixture, tossing to coat. Put them all in a bowl.
