Homemade wheat porridge recipe for baby. This recipe uses whole wheat flour to make the baby food. Alternately you can use whole wheat grains, soak them overnight and blend to smooth. Then make the wheat porridge. Suitable for 8 months old and above.

3 tbsp Wheat flour (or atta (organic if possible))
200 ml water
1 small Apple (- low acid variety - sweet)
1/8 tsp ghee (homemade only (refer notes))
1 small Ripe banana
3 to 4 small Ripe chikoo ( or paal sapota)
1 small pear

Steps:

  • Optional step - Dry roast 1 cup of wheat flour on a medium flame until it smells good. Cool this completely. You can sieve the flour if it has bran. Transfer to a air tight jar. Use this when ever needed.

Wheat (Coarse):1 cup
Moong dal (yellow):1/2 cup
Almonds:1/4 cup
Wheat mix:1/4 cup
Powdered jaggery:1.5 tsp
Water (hot): 1/2 cup
Milk (hot): 3/4 cup

Steps:

  • First, learn to make wheat mix for the porridge : Take a thick bottom pan and heat it.>>Then dry roast the almonds for 5 minutes on low-medium flame.>>Take out the roasted almond, allow it cool and coarsely grind it using a grinder.>>Wash the moong dal thoroughly and allow it to dry under the sunlight for 20 minutes.>>Add sundried moong dal to the pan and roast it until it gets golden brown.>>Now grind the roasted moong dal and mix it with coarse almond powder.>>Now roast the coarse wheat until it releases a nice nutty aroma.>>Mix everything and grains are ready for making wheat porridge.,For making wheat porridge : Take a pan and add 1/4 cup of water and jaggery powder or unrefined sugar to it.>>Allow it to boil until it melts completely.>>Filter out the jaggery water using a strainer and pour it into a saucepan.>>Take 1/2 cup of wheat mix in a saucepan.>>Allow it to cook for 10-15 minutes.>>Stir it continuously while cooking otherwise porridge may stick to the vessel.>>Check with your hand if the porridge is cooked.>>If you can press and mash the wheat easily then it is cooked completely, now add milk to this.>>Allow it to simmer for another 5 minutes.>>Check for the consistency of the porridge and switch off the flame.>>Serve it lukewarm.

Healthy wheat porridge for babies with wheat flour, moong dal, and almonds.

Wheat flour mix powder - 2 tbsp
Powdered jaggery - 1.5 tbsp (optional)
Water - 1/4 cup + 1/4 cup
Cows milk - 3/4 cup (don't add for babies under one year)
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Almonds - 1/4 cup

Steps:

  • Sterilize the bowls and spoons used for feeding your baby in a vessel with hot water for five minutes and keep it immersed in the same vessel until use.
  • Boil cows milk (if using) in a saucepan and keeps it ready.
  • Firstly, we need to prepare the wheat mix powder to make the porridge. Measure wheat flour, moong dal and almonds in a measuring cup and keep everything ready. Then heat a pan and dry roast the almonds for five minutes in low, medium flame or until it changes its color here and there. Remove roasted almonds from the pan and transfer to a blender. Let it cool down for some time.
  • Then wash the moong dal thoroughly in running water and dry it under the sun for 30 minutes or you can directly start roasting in a pan. Add moong dal in the same pan and dry roast it until it changed to a golden brown. It may take five minutes. Remove the roasted moong dal from the pan and add it to the blender.
  • Once almonds and moong dal are cooled down, grind it together in the blender to a smooth powder. Then sieve it with a sieve and collect the sieved powder in a big plate.
  • Now Dry roast the wheat flour for five minutes in low, medium flame for 5 minutes or until nice aroma comes. Then switch off the flame and add the ground moong dal almond powder to the roasted wheat flour and mix it well. Once done, cool it down and store it in an airtight container.
  • Next step is to make porridge with the wheat mix powder. Take 2 tbsp of wheat mix powder in a saucepan. Add 1/4 cup of water to the powdered jaggery and boil it in a separate vessel until it melts completely. Then filter out the jaggery water using a strainer in the saucepan with wheat flour mix added.
  • Add 1/4 cup of water to the wheat flour with jaggery and mix everything slowly with a whisk. Make sure that there are no lumps formed. Cook the wheat flour in medium flame until everything cooked thoroughly. Stir it continuously while cooking otherwise porridge may stick to the vessel. Add milk now to the cooked porridge. (Skip adding milk if you are preparing this porridge for a baby under one year ). Boil the porridge until it becomes thick. Remove from flame once done and cool it down. The porridge becomes thick after cooling down. So switch off the flame accordingly.
