This very simple lotion recipe is perfect for beginners. The lotion is pumpable, non greasy, and blends together easily.

Number Of Ingredients 7

Ingredients

156 grams water
10 grams polawax
10 grams stearic acid
12 grams apricot kernel oil
12 grams sweet almond oil
2 grams preservative such as phenonip
2 grams orange oil or fragrance of choice

Steps:

Measure out water in large Pyrex cup using digital scale
Measure out polawax, stearic acid, almond oil, and apricot kernel oil in separate Pyrex cup using digital scale
Heat water in microwave for 60 seconds, or until it is 160 degrees
Heat oils and waxes in microwave for 60-90 seconds, until 160 degrees.
Pour oils into water cup and blend with stick blender for 20 seconds (if the mixture seems to be splattering too much, pour it into a wide mouth large mason jar or drinking cup)
Blend for 20-30 seconds, then take a 30 second rest. Do this until the lotion emulsifies. It will increase in volume and look thick instead of watery.
At the. preservative and fragrance if using. Blend another 60 seconds.
Pour into a clean container. Let the lotion cool before topping.
Use within 6 months.

Ingredients

1/8 teaspoon borax
1/4 cup distilled water
1/2 cup almond oil
1 tablespoon grated beeswax
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

Steps:

Dissolve the borax in the water in a glass measuring cup.
Set aside.
Mix together the oil and beeswax in another glass measuring cup.
Place the glass cup in a pan of water (about 1-2 inches of water), making a water bath.
Heat the oil-beeswax mixture in the water bath over medium heat until the beeswax is melted, stirring occasionally.
This takes 10 minutes.
When the wax is melted, bring the borax-water mixture almost to a boil.
This can be done by putting the glass cup in the microwave on HIGH for 1 minute.
It can also be heated on the stove top in a water bath.
Remove the oil-beeswax mixture from the water bath.
Slowly add the borax-water mixture to it, stirring briskly.
You can also put the mixture in a blender and whip.
Allow the lotion to cool completely.
Stir the almond extract into the cooled lotion if you would like more of an almond scent.
This lotion will thicken as it cools.
Pour the lotion into a clean container with a lid.
To use: Massage a small amount into your skin.
