A dab of cinnamon-flavored sour cream is the perfect complement to these nutty curried peaches. In the oven, the fruit juice forms a wonderful sauce for spooning over each serving.

  • Place peach halves in an ungreased shallow 2-qt. baking dish; set aside. In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, butter and curry powder. Cook and stir over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over peaches. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes or until heated through. Combine sour cream and cinnamon; serve with peaches.

1/2 cup water
1/4 cup vinegar
8 to 10 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
6 fresh peaches, peeled and halved
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, bring the first five ingredients to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes. Add peaches; simmer until heated through, about 10 minutes. , Pour into a shallow dish. Cover and chill 8 hours or overnight. Drain. Spoon peaches into serving dishes; garnish with a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle with brown sugar.

A fruity pud is a brilliant way to end a meal - this speedy number can be whipped up in minutes, then cooked while you're eating your main course

375g pack puff pastry sheet
1 egg , beaten
175g marzipan , chopped
3 peaches , halved, stoned and thinly sliced
1 tbsp flaked almonds
crème fraîche , to serve

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Unroll the pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut in half horizontally. Slice each half into 3.
  • Lay the pastry sheets on a baking sheet. Use a knife to mark a 1cm border on each - be careful not to go all the way through. Prick inside the border with a fork, then brush all over with beaten egg.
  • Bake for 10 mins until golden and slightly risen. Divide the marzipan equally between the pastry squares and fan out the peach slices on top, followed by a sprinkling of almonds.
  • Put the slices back into the oven for 10 mins until they have puffed up and are golden. Serve with a dollop of crème fraîche.
