CHEATER PANCAKE SYRUP



Cheater Pancake Syrup image

This was the syrup I grew up with. It tastes fabulous without all the extra work on getting real tapped maple syrup. It's also a cheaper way to have syrup, as these are things I always have in my cupboard.

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cups white sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 cup water
½ teaspoon maple flavored extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine the white sugar, brown sugar and water. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 3 minutes. Stir in the maple extract and vanilla, and remove form the heat. Let cool, and serve at room temperature. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Be aware that it may crystallize a little if the container is not completely airtight.

Anita's Cheater Beans Recipe - (5/5) image

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 strips bacon, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/4 medium onion, finely diced
Two 27-ounce cans pinto beans
2 serrano peppers, scored
1 medium tomato, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper
1/4 bunch fresh cilantro (don't use the stems and don't chop, just snip or pinch off the leaves)

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, fry the bacon over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Then add the onions and cook until the bacon is cooked but not crisp and the onions are translucent, another couple of minutes. Do not drain the bacon grease because it gives the beans a good taste. Add the beans, peppers, tomatoes, garlic and 1 1/2 cups water, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes. Add some salt and pepper and the cilantro and remove from the heat.
