APPLE CRISP WITH A TWIST
Nicely spiced apple crisp gets a delightful twist from Marilynn Ostrander of Lehigh Acres, Florida. She drops sweet dollops of apricot jam over the traditional crumb topping. Served warm, it pairs well with ice cream or frozen yogurt.

- In a small bowl, combine the apple, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Transfer to a 3-cup baking dish coated with cooking spray. , For topping, combine the flour and sugar in a small bowl; cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in pecans. Sprinkle over apple mixture. Drop jam by teaspoonfuls over the top., Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until apple slices are tender. Serve warm with ice cream if desired. Refrigerate leftovers.,

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Spread diced apples into the bottom of a 9-inch square baking dish.
- Stir brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a bowl. Mash softened butter into the sugar mixture with a fork until you get a crumbly consistency; spread over apples to cover.
- Bake in preheated oven until the apples are tender, about 30 minutes.

After experimenting with many different recipes, I came up with this unique recipe for apple crisp. It has some ingredients you wouldn't expect to find in a crisp recipe, making this apple crisp especially delicious.

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Spray a 9-inch pie dish with cooking spray.
- Place the flour, rolled oats, coconut, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and butter into the work bowl of a food processor. Pulse several times to make a mixture that looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in the walnuts.
- In a large bowl, mix together the apples, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, tapioca, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg until well combined. Pour the filling into the prepared pie dish; spread the topping evenly over the filling.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the apple crisp is bubbling and golden brown, 30 to 40 minutes.
