1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup margarine, softened
1 cup skim milk
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
2 egg whites
2 medium apples, chopped (2 cups)
apple, sliced (if desired)
3 tablespoons firm margarine
1 cup quick-cooking oats or 1 cup old fashioned oats
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F degrees.
  • Grease square pan, 9 × 9 × 2 inches.
  • Prepare Oat Streusel; set aside.
  • Beat remaining ingredients except apples in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl frequently.
  • Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
  • Stir in apples.
  • Spread half of the batter in pan; sprinkle with half of the streusel.
  • Top with remaining batter; sprinkle with remaining streusel.
  • Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Serve warm.
  • Garnish with apple slices.
  • OAT STREUSEL-----------------------.
  • Cut margarine into oats, flour and brown sugar, using pastry blender or fork, until crumbly.
  • Stir in nuts.

1 cup old fashioned oats
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup canola oil
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
3 tablespoons molasses
2 medium granny smith apples, peeled and diced
1 cup chopped walnuts, toasted and divided
2/3 cup golden raisin
2 tablespoons raw turbinado sugar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350*. Spray 9" square baking pan with cooking spray. Place oats on baking sheet; bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly toasted. Cool.
  • Process oats in food processor until very finely ground. Whisk oats, all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1 tsp of cinnamon, allspice and salt in large bowl.
  • Beat brown sugar, eggs and oil in large bowl until blended. Beat in buttermilk and molasses until combined. Stir into dry ingredients until just blended. Stir in apples, 1/2 cup of walnuts and raisins. Spoon batter into pan. Combine remaining 1/2 cup walnuts, raw sugar and remaining 1 tsp cinnamon; sprinkle over batter.
  • Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-inch round spring form pan, line the bottom with parchment paper, then grease once more. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the white whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, all spice, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • Add 1/3 of the dry ingredients to the bowl with the butter, then 1/2 of the buttermilk, stopping to combine after each addition. Repeat, adding the second 1/3 of the dry ingredients, the remaining 1/2 of the buttermilk, and ending with the remaining 1/3 of the dry ingredients. Scrape the bottom and sides of the bowl to make sure everything is evenly combined. Stir in the apples. Scrape the batter into the prepared baking pan, then with the back of a rubber spatula, smooth the top.
