APPLE CRISP - PERFECT AND EASY
I adapted this from a 50-year-old peach crisp recipe. Although it works well with peaches, it works even better with fresh, crisp cooking apples.

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
- Arrange apple slices evenly in prepared baking dish. Sift flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal; sprinkle over apples.
- Bake in preheated oven until topping is golden, 40 to 45 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.

Simple, old-fashioned apple crisp. If you want something simple and homemade on hand, you can double the filling recipe (I use a 5-pound bag of Granny Smith apples) and freeze half of it.

- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for filling in a bowl; transfer to the prepared baking dish.
- Combine brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, and cinnamon for topping in a large bowl. Sprinkle on top of filling.
- Bake in the preheated oven until golden and bubbly, about 1 hour.

This unique way to use fall squash is the most popular seasonal dessert at our house. It's also a nice alternative to pumpkin pie.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Pour about 1 inch of water into the bottom of a pan. Place the squash into a steamer basket fitted into the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium, cover, and steam the squash until tender and easily pierced with a fork, about 15 minutes. Cool.
- Place the squash, 2/3 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, eggs, milk, vanilla, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is smooth. Pour into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the apples, carrots, and raisins until evenly blended. Spread the mixture over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Mix together the rolled oats, wheat bran, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon with the melted butter in a bowl until crumbly. Spoon the topping over the apple-squash mixture.
- Bake in preheated oven until top is golden brown and the apples are tender, 30 to 45 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Prepare a glass baking dish with cooking spray.
- Mix apples, pears, raisins, and chia seeds in the baking dish. Drizzle apple cider and maple syrup over the fruit mixture and stir gently to coat.

- Apple Mixture: 5 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored & sliced 2 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons lemon juice Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- For the topping: Mix together the flour, oats, sugar and spices in a large bowl.
- Using the large holes of a grater, grate the butter into the bowl.
- Blend until the mixture just begins to come together, being careful not to over mix.
- Toss the apples in a large bowl with the sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spoon into the baking pan and sprinkle the topping mixture over the fruit. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is browned and crisp.
- Serve warm with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream.

- 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- 2.Peel, core, and slice apples.
- 3.Place the fruit in a large bowl and add the zest, juice, sugar, flour, and spices.
- 4. Pour into a 9 by 12 by 2-inch baking dish.
- For the topping:.
- 1.Combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
