Everyone loves a good A&W® Root Beer Float - a classic and fun drink recipe made with bubbly root beer, creamy vanilla ice cream, and a few other ingredients that takes it over the top! Here's how to make the absolute BEST one!

2 scoops vanilla ice cream
8 ounces A&W® Root Beer
whipped cream (garnish)
maraschino cherry (garnish)

Steps:

  • Use a tall glass, preferably a float glass or a beer stein. Freeze your glasses prior to use for an extra frosty experience.
  • Add the ice cream to the glass and pour the root beer in slowly at an angle to reduce fizz and risk of overflow.
  • Top with whipped cream and a cherry.

Splash bourbon, optional
Freshly whipped cream

Steps:

  • Place a few scoops of vanilla ice cream into 2 tall float glasses. Pour the root beer and bourbon, if using, over the ice cream and top with a dollop of whipped cream.

This nostalgic shake is so simple to make since it has only 2 ingredients! One of the rare times something yummy and sweet is also so low in calories and zero fat...You've gotta love that!!! The skinny for 1 float, 90 calories and 0 fat. If If you're not a root beer fan, use diet coke instead. Have fun skinny sipping!

1 (12 oz) can (1½ cups) chilled diet root beer, (I used A&W diet root beer)
½ cup Breyers fat-free creamy vanilla ice cream (or fat-free frozen yogurt, see shopping tips)

Steps:

  • Pour 1 cup of diet root beer into a tall glass. Add ½ cup scoop of ice cream. Taste it. If desired, ad ½ cup more diet root beer.
  • Serve with a straw.
