2 cups flour
4 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 ounce dry yeast
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups syrup (attar)
oil (for deep frying)

Steps:

  • Mix flour, salt, and cornstarch.
  • Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup of water and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoons sugar.
  • Add yeast mixture and 1 cup of water to flour and cornstarch. Beat well until smooth. (Batter should have the same consistency as pancake mix). Set aside one hour to rise.
  • Heat oil in a deep-frying pan on medium to high fire.
  • Dip a tablespoon in water, and pick up a small portion of the batter and drop it into the hot oil. Repeat until all the batter is used.
  • Fry until light brown. Remove and dip in prepared cold attar (syrup).
  • Serve while hot.

1 (18-ounce) package refrigerated sugar cookie dough, room temperature (recommended: Pillsbury)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon brandy extract
Prepared vanilla frosting
Drippy icing, recipe follows
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 drop yellow food coloring

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Knead dough with flour, adding in 2 parts, and brandy extract. Break into 2-inch pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch long rope. On an ungreased cookie sheet, shape rope like a doughnut, pinching ends together. Freeze for 10 minutes. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Cookies should be just lightly golden on top. Cool completely. Frost each cookie with vanilla frosting. Drizzle Drippy Icing over cookies.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk. Tint with 1 drop yellow food coloring. Add more powdered sugar for stiffer consistency, if desired. Drizzle over cookies.

These luscious morsels are a pure taste of heaven. I make these quite often, and my 11 year old nephew requests them all the time, and he even knows they are healthy. Once again, a wonderful recipe from Joann Lund. I am posting this for my wonderful friends at WLB2006. Each serving (2 doughnuts) is only 1 Starch Exchange. I don't know the exact calories, but a starch serving is 80 calories. Family and friends won't believe these are healthy. Yes, it is 1 cup and 2 tablespoons of reduced fat Bisquick, computer wouldn't let me put in 1 Cup + 2 tablespoons.

1 cup Bisquick reduced-fat baking mix
2 tablespoons Bisquick reduced-fat baking mix
1/4 cup Splenda granular (sugar substitute)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg (or equivalent in egg substitute)
2/3 cup skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
candy coating
2 tablespoons Splenda granular (sugar substitute)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray a 12 hole mini muffin pan with butter flavored cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, combine baking mix, 1/4 cup Splenda and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Add egg, skim milk and vanilla extract.
  • Mix well to combine.
  • Drop by spoonfuls into prepared muffin pan.
  • Bake for 14 to 16 minutes.
  • Place muffin pan on a wire rack and cool for 10 minutes.
  • Remove balls from pan.
  • In a ziploc plastic bag, combine sugar coating ingredients and place warm donut balls in 2 or 3 at a time and shake to coat.
