Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Yield Makes 6 medium or 12 mini candy apples

Number Of Ingredients 6

Unsalted butter, for parchment paper
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring, (optional)
6 medium apples, or 12 lady apples

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; butter parchment, and set aside. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, 3/4 cup water, corn syrup, and food coloring, if using. Bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat to medium-high. Insert candy thermometer and continue to boil until temperature reaches between 300 degrees and 310 degrees (hard crack stage), about 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing about halfway through; set aside. When mixture reaches temperature, immediately remove from heat. Working quickly, dip apples in sugar mixture until completely coated. Transfer to prepared baking sheet; allow to cool.

Candy Apples are also easy to make at home in your own kitchen! These Homemade Cinnamon Candy Apples are tart apples with a crunchy cinnamon coating.

Provided by Elizabeth LaBau

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 apples (preferably tart, like Granny Smith)
8 wooden skewers
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup red cinnamon candies (like Red Hots)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil or parchment paper and lightly spraying with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Wash and dry apples carefully. Make sure that no water remains on the apples.
  • Remove stems and firmly stick skewers in stem ends.
  • Combine sugar, corn syrup, and hot water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • Stir until sugar dissolves, then continue to cook, without stirring, until mixture reaches 250 F on a candy thermometer .
  • Wipe down the sides of the pan with a wet pastry brush occasionally to prevent crystallization.
  • Once candy reaches 250 F, add cinnamon candies and stir briefly until candies melt and incorporate into sugar syrup.
  • Continue to cook candy coating, occasionally washing down sides with wet pastry brush, until mixture reaches 285 F.
  • Remove pan from heat and stir mixture so that it is smooth and even.
  • Immediately start to dip apples. Hold an apple by skewer and dip in candy coating, tilting pan at an angle and rotating apple to cover it completely with a smooth, even layer of red candy.
  • Pull apple out of pan and twirl it to remove any excess. Set it stick-side up on prepared baking sheet.
  • Repeat with remaining apples.
  • Allow apples to cool at room temperature before serving. Candy apples are best enjoyed within 24 hours.

CANDY APPLES

Candy Apples image

Traditional candy apples are dipped in a vibrant syrup that's tinted red. This version skips the food coloring, and instead infuses the candy coating with cinnamon and vanilla. If you're worried about your teeth, serve these by slicing them, rather than trying to take a bite, as the candy coating sets to be quite firm. Be sure to start with room temperature apples as cold apples will cause the candy mixture to harden too quickly making it difficult to work with.

Time 30m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 medium apples (about 1 1/2 pounds total), such as Granny Smith, McIntosh or Honeycrisp, preferably organic (see note), washed and dried, at room temperature
4 (8-inch) sturdy treat sticks
2 cups/405 grams granulated sugar
1/3 cup/80 milliliters light corn syrup
1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped, or 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or a piece of lightly greased parchment paper. Place the apples onto the prepared baking sheet, and press a treat stick firmly into the stem end, into the center of each apple.
  • In a medium pot, combine the sugar, corn syrup, 1/2 cup water, vanilla bean seeds (discard the pod) or extract, cinnamon and salt. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the mixture begins to bubble at the edges, about 5 minutes - once it begins to bubble, stop stirring.
  • Cook the mixture (without stirring) until it reads 300 degrees on an instant-read thermometer, about another 10 to 15 minutes. Leave the syrup mixture in the pot, and cool to 275 degrees. (The mixture will cool quickly; if it cools too much, it can be reheated until fluid.)
  • Working quickly, dip 3/4 of an apple into the sugar syrup, tilting the pot as needed to coat. Hold the apple over the sugar syrup, letting the excess drip off, then transfer to the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples, reheating the sugar syrup as necessary. Cool completely before serving.

CANDY BAR STUFFED BAKED APPLES

Candy Bar Stuffed Baked Apples image

Make and share this Candy Bar Stuffed Baked Apples recipe from Food.com.

Provided by gailanng

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h35m

Yield 4 baked apples, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon sugar
3/4 cup apple cider
1/2 cup finely chopped Snickers candy bars, divided
1/2 cup finely chopped skor chocolate-covered english toffee bar, divided (can sub Heath Bar)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 medium apples
vanilla ice cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place apples on a cutting board. With a sharp knife, carefully cut the top 1/2 inch from the top of each.
  • Using an apple corer or a small melon baller, scoop out the stem, core and seeds from each apple, leaving the bottom intact. Stand the apples in a 9 inch square baking dish, cut side up.
  • Divide 1/4 cup each chopped Snickers and Skor/Heath bar candy bars among the apples, about 2 tablespoons of candy per apple.
  • Place 1 1/2 teaspoon of butter inside each apple, on top of the candy bar pieces. Then divide the remainder 1/4 cup chopped candy bars among the apples.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the cider and sugar and pour mixture over and around the apples. Carefully place baking dish in the oven and bake the apples uncovered until tender, about 1 hour and 20 minutes. (Original recipes states 1 hour and 20 minutes, but if cooked too long the apples become mealy. Start checking around 45 minutes.) Remove from oven and let sit 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot or warm, spoon the pan juices over apples and add vanilla ice cream if desired.
