Use as an exact substitute for Original Bisquick Baking Mix in recipes. Original Bisquick does not contain powdered milk. Neither does this copycat recipe. This recipe also uses canola oil as a healthy substitute for solid shortening.

6 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons baking powder
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons table salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
9 tablespoons canola oil

Steps:

Whisk dry ingredients together. Mix well.
Using an electric mixer, slowly stir in canola oil.
Mix until all lumps are gone and mixture is a uniform texture, about 1 minute.
Store in an airtight container.

This is a recipe that is higher in fiber and slightly lower in fat than most of the ones already posted. I use whole wheat pastry flour and the shortening is the zero trans fat variety. This can be used just like Bisquick for making pancakes or biscuits. The recipe comes from The New American Diet cookbook.

1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/4 cup baking powder

Steps:

Measure the dry ingredients into a bowl.
Sift together 3 times, place in a large bowl and cut shortening into dry ingredients using pastry blender until size of small peas.
Store in tightly covered container.
