TANGY BBQ MEATBALL SLIDERS

Tangy BBQ Meatball Sliders image

Sure, you can buy frozen meatballs and bottled BBQ sauce, but homemade is well worth the effort. These sliders are great Game Day snacks or bite-sized party appetizers. We like our sliders with coleslaw, but a little cheese wouldn't hurt either.

Time 1h5m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 22

cooking spray
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
2 cups ketchup
⅔ cup molasses (such as Grandma's®)
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 ½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ tablespoons dry mustard powder (such as Colman's®)
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®), or to taste
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
½ pound ground beef
½ pound ground pork
¾ cup fresh bread crumbs
¼ cup milk
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon stone-ground mustard
1 teaspoon grill seasoning (such as Montreal Steak Seasoning®)
1 clove garlic, minced
12 slider-size burger buns

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place a baking rack sprayed with nonstick cooking spray onto a foil-lined baking pan.
  • Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and saute for about 3 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add ketchup, molasses, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, hot sauce, and cayenne pepper; mix well. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Add a bit of water if sauce gets too thick.
  • Meanwhile, combine beef, pork, bread crumbs, milk, egg, mustard, steak seasoning, and garlic in a bowl. Use a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop to form meat mixture into balls, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Place meatballs on the rack, leaving enough space between them so they'll brown on all sides.
  • Bake meatballs in the preheated oven until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F (71 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Gently stir meatballs into the BBQ sauce. Simmer until meatballs are heated through, 10 to 15 minutes. Divide saucy meatballs among the slider buns.

BBQ MEATBALL SLIDERS WITH BACON

BBQ Meatball Sliders with Bacon image

Bacon lovers unite! This recipe is a bacon lover's dream, with bacon 2 ways! Due to the BBQ sauce being sweet, I recommend using a spicy cheese (like habanero Jack).

Provided by thedailygourmet

Categories     Meat and Poultry Recipes     Pork

Time 40m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 10

7 slices bacon
8 ounces 93% lean ground beef
½ cup panko bread crumbs
¾ cup barbeque sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray's®), divided
1 tablespoon steak sauce
10 slices pepper Jack cheese
10 slider buns
10 slices cooked bacon
¼ cup slivered onion
¼ cup roasted red pepper, cut into strips

Steps:

  • Attach the meat grinder attachment to an electric stand mixer (such as KitchenAid®). Run enough bacon through the meat grinder to make 8 ounces ground bacon.
  • Combine ground bacon, beef, bread crumbs, 1/4 cup barbeque sauce, and steak sauce in a bowl. Mix until well combined and shape into 2-inch round balls. Set meatballs on a baking sheet.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake meatballs until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reads 160 degrees F (71 degrees C), about 25 minutes.
  • Place a slice of cheese on top each meatball. Toast slider buns if desired. Place a meatball between each slider bun. Top with cooked bacon slices, onion, remaining barbeque sauce, and roasted red bell peppers.

SOUTHERN BBQ MEATBALL SLIDERS RECIPE

SOUTHERN BBQ MEATBALL SLIDERS RECIPE image

Rosina Artisan Smoky Maple Bacon Meatballs are tossed in sweet spicy BBQ sauce, topped with melted cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, and extra crispy bacon (because we all love bacon!) then sandwiched between fluffy buttermilk biscuits. We are taking BBQ Meatball Sliders to the next level. Perfect appetizer for your game day parties!

Provided by Christina Thomas

Categories     Appetizer

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 11

24 cooked meatballs (I used Rosina Artisan Smoky Maple Bacon Meatballs)
12 buttermilk biscuits (I used frozen Southern Style biscuits, prepared per package instructions)
1 1/2 cups sweet spicy BBQ sauce
12 small slices of cheddar cheese
1 medium sweet onion (sliced)
1/3 lb bacon (diced)
2 tablespoons salted butter
dash of Worcestershire
2 green onions (chopped)
Shredded cheddar to top biscuits
Kosher Dill Pickles

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place frozen meatballs in large saucepan with BBQ sauce, over medium-low heat. Heat with lid covered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add ¼ cup of water if sauce gets too thick. Set aside. (You can also use your slow cooker for even easier prep!)
  • Cook diced bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Drain bacon on paper towels to remove excess grease.
  • Cook sliced onion in same skillet used for bacon, until caramelized, about 8 minutes.
  • Place bottom half of biscuits in rectangular baking pan. Place 2 cooked meatballs on top of each biscuit.
  • Top with slices of cheddar cheese.
  • Place a small spoonful of bacon and onions on top of cheese and sprinkle green onions.
  • Melt butter in small bowl. Add a dash or two of Worcestershire sauce to butter and stir. Brush melted butter over the tops of the biscuits and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Place sliders in preheated oven to heat through and melt the cheese, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove from oven. Spear with toothpick and Kosher Pickle and serve.
  • ENJOY!
