BEST EVER OVEN FRIES

Best Ever Oven Fries image

Get ready for my best ever oven fries! This method for baked fries is so easy and results in crispy, tender french fries that are perfectly seasoned every time.

Provided by Chelsea Cole

Number Of Ingredients 3

2 lbs russet potatoes (scrubbed clean (peeling optional))
Kosher salt
1 tbsp olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Bring a large stockpot of water to a boil.
  • While you're waiting for the water to boil, slice the potatoes into your desired french fry shape. I like a thickness of about 1/2 inch.
  • Once the water is boiling, add kosher salt 1 tbsp at a time. Taste between tbsp. Salt until the water is salty like the ocean (noticeably salty on your tongue).
  • Add the potatoes to the boiling, salted water and boil for about 8 minutes, until fries are just fork tender but not falling apart.
  • Strain and rinse with cold water. Lay out paper towels. Set the potatoes on top of the paper towels and pat dry with additional paper towels.
  • Once dry, add the potatoes to a rimmed baking sheet. Toss with olive oil and about 1 tsp kosher salt.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, flip the fries, and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

THE BEST OVEN-BAKED FRIES

Making The Best Oven-Baked Fries is super easy and they are low FODMAP! Make sure to check out our variations, too. Note that the variations might yield fries that are no longer vegan, vegetarian, etc. Use your good judgement.

Provided by Dédé Wilson

Categories     Appetizer     Side Dish

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 pound (455 g) russet potatoes ((about 2 medium sized; see headnote above))
2 tablespoons oil canola,
Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450°F/230°C. Line two rimmed baking sheet pans (commercial grade half-sheet pans) with parchment paper and lightly coat with nonstick spray.
  • Peel potatoes and cut into 3/8 inch (1 cm) slabs lengthwise, then stack a few slabs at a time and cut into classic French fry shapes 3/8 inch (1 cm) wide. Place potatoes in bowl, drizzle with oil and toss to coat well. Sprinkle lightly with salt (you can add more after, if you like) and toss again to coat evenly.
  • Scatter the fries on both pans, spacing evenly so that none are touching one another; don't get lazy here or you will end up with flaccid fries. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the bottoms of the fries are golden, then flip fries over and continue to bake for about 12 to 15 minutes more or until fries are golden brown on both sides and crispy. Serve immediately with extra salt, ketchup or check out our variations.

PERFECT FRENCH FRIES

Perfect French Fries image

In a nutshell, here it is: Soak potatoes, dry potatoes, fry potatoes, drain potatoes, then fry again!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 2h50m

Yield s: 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

5 pounds russet potatoes
Vegetable or peanut oil, for frying
Sea salt

Steps:

  • Peel and rinse the potatoes. Then cut them into sticks by cutting the potato in 4 or 5 vertical pieces, and then cutting each piece into sticks.
  • Place them in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Allow them to soak, 2 to 3 hours. (You can also stick them in the fridge and let them soak overnight.)
  • When you're ready to make the fries, drain off the water and lay the potatoes on 2 baking sheets lined with paper towels. Blot with paper towels to dry them.
  • Heat a few inches of oil in a heavy pot to 300 degrees F. In 3 or 4 batches, cook the potatoes until soft, 4 to 5 minutes per batch. They should not be brown at this point! You just want to start the cooking process. Remove each batch and drain on new/dry paper towels.
  • Once all the potatoes have been fried at 300 degrees F, turn up the heat until the oil reaches 400 degrees F. When the oil's hot, start frying the potatoes in batches again, cooking until the fries are golden and crisp. Remove the potatoes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Sprinkle with sea salt and dive in!
