This recipe requires the 'Black Sesame Seed and Walnut Mix' that I submitted on this website. I make this bread twice a week. It's our all-time family favorite!

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
1 large banana, mashed
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup packed brown sugar
1 egg white
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon canola oil
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
⅓ cup black sesame seeds
⅓ cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a loaf pan.
  • Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together in a bowl. Mix banana, white sugar, brown sugar, egg white, milk, canola oil, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl; stir into flour mixture just until batter is moistened. Fold sesame seeds and walnuts into batter; pour into prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool in pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

This is a recipe I found on the internet. I have never seen these in our area so went looking for a recipe.

3 cups walnut halves
oil, to fry
glaze
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons honey
1/4 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • In a wok, heat oil for deep frying to 300 deg. over med. heat. Add walnuts and deep fry turning frequently, until golden for four to five minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Combine butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Cook stirring, over low heat until brown sugar melts. Add honey and five-spice powder. Mix well. Remove from heat and add walnuts and sesame seeds; gently to coat.
  • Spread mixture in a foil lined baking pan or plate. Let stand until cool. Break into bite sized pieces before serving.

This is my Chinese husband's grandmother's recipe. We usually add it into our milk. Way awesome. You can even sprinkle it over mochi (rice cake). I've actually added into my banana bread recipe and it's sooooooooooooo good!! My husband raves about it. Have to try this! Use it in whatever sounds good to you. Milk, oatmeal, banana bread, on rice cakes, or even on toasted bread. Get creative. You may also add in some sugar depending on your taste. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Cook and stir the sesame seeds in a large skillet over medium heat until the seeds smell toasted and begin to pop, about 7 minutes. While toasting the sesame seeds, cook the walnuts in the microwave until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Allow the sesame seeds and walnuts to cool to room temperature.
  • Once cool, place the sesame seeds and walnuts into a blender. Blend until finely ground. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
