BONE BROTH RECIPE FOR DOGS
Bone broth is a stock liquid from cooked or simmering raw bones. Other parts of an animal that can't be eaten, like ligaments, marrow, tendons, skin and feet can also be added to the bone broth mix to increase the nutritional content. This bone broth recipe for dogs is easy to make, and offers impressive health benefits.

Steps:
- First, add the bones to your slow cooker (or pot). You can add any type of bone, including chicken feet, lamb, duck or turkey necks, chicken frames, beef marrow bones, and so forth. You can use cooked bones, but raw bones are better because they still have all of the nutrients in them.
- Next, cover the bones with water and add the apple cider vinegar. Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 24 hours. Check the broth occasionally, and add more water if it dips below the top of the bones.
- When it's finished cooking, strain the broth into a large container. DO NOT feed the cooked bones to your dog. The cooking process makes the bones brittle, which could be very dangerous to your dog's digestive tract.
- Allow the broth to cool and then refrigerate it for at least 3 hours. A fat layer will congeal on the top of the broth. Scoop the fat and throw it out, and then you are ready to serve the broth to your pup.

- Grease a large roasting pan with the olive oil and place your bone in the center, pig’s feet around the edges, and fill with the celery and carrots in the empty spaces.
- Bake the bones for an hour, flipping the bones and feet halfway through. If things are getting too brown too fast, turn down the oven or just skip straight to loading the Instant Pot.

- Gather your ingredients and equipment. 1 whole chicken (5-8 pounds) 3-4 medium-sized carrots, peeled or just cleaned well. 3 stalks of celery, cleaned. 1 big handful (about half a bunch) flat-leaved parsley.
- Place ingredients in the slow cooker or stockpot. Add the chicken, veggies, herbs, and salt and then use the water to cover them. Be careful not to overfill your pot or slow cooker - take note of any max fill lines if you’re using a slow cooker.
- Simmer for 12 - 24 hours. This is the hard part, waiting and waiting for the bone broth to be done. I like using the slow cooker and letting the broth cook itself overnight.
- Strain out the liquid. When you’re done simmering, you’ll want to grab your second pot or a large bowl. Get your fine mesh strainer and pour the hot liquid through it into the clean pot or bowl.
- Allow the bone broth to cool down. As the broth cools, the fat will all rise to the surface. This fat is not great for your dog so you will be able to remove it easily in the next step.
- Skim off the fat. You should now see a yellow or white layer of solid fat at the top of your bone broth. It should be very easy to grab a spoon and scrape this off.
- Use your bone broth to make other soups for you and your dog. This step is completely optional! Your dog can just lap up the broth or you can put it on his food to soften it and make it more appealing.

- Add Bones, Water And Vinegar. First, I fill my crockpot with bones. Because I like to make sure there’s lots of healthy, joint protecting gelatin in my broth, I use bones with a lot of joints in them like chicken feet.
- Add Water And Vinegar. Next, I’ll fill the pot so the bones are completely covered, plus an extra two or three inches of water on top. The important part is to add raw apple cider vinegar or lemon juice to the pot … this is the magic ingredient that makes sure your broth has all of that great and healthy gelatin in it … it also pulls the nutritious minerals out of the bones.
- Strain The Bones. When the broth is finished, I need to strain the bones and meat out. These bones shouldn’t be fed to dogs, so I put them in the green bin.
- Get Creative. Here’s the fun but optional part. When I turn the crockpot off, I’ll add some nutritious extras. For this batch of broth, I added some frozen kale and fresh leftover green beans.
- Let It Cool. Once my broth is cooled, I’ll put it in the fridge. This is where the magic happens … and in just a few hours, you’ll know if you’ve made a good batch!
- Store Your Broth. Because I have a lot of dogs, I just leave my bone broth in the crockpot in their fridge (yes, my dogs have their own fridge, but I’m sure there’s room in your fridge for bone broth).
- Give It To Your Dog! The final (and best) step is to feed the bone broth to your dog! I pull bone broth out of the fridge and give my large dogs two or three heaping spoonfuls over their dinner.
