Bourbon Shrimp are coated in a sweet and salty sauce flavored with bourbon, honey, and garlic. It's basically the shrimp version of the delicious Bourbon Chicken you get at the mall food court.

1/4 cup bourbon
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 garlic cloves (minced)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon oil
1 1/2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 green onion (sliced)

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together bourbon, water, brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, ginger, red pepper flakes, garlic cloves, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Add shrimp and cook just until cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • Add sauce mixture to the pan and cook until thickened. Return shrimp to pan, remove from heat and stir to coat the shrimp in sauce.
  • Sprinkle the green onions on top.

1 cup Uncooked White Rice
3 tbsp Bee Well Honey
2 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tsp garlic (Finely Chopped)
1/2 tsp Ginger (Grated)
1/4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
1 pound Shrimp (Peeled and deveined with tail on (fresh, or thawed if fronzen))
1/4 cup Parsley (Chopped)

Steps:

  • Cook rice according to package directions.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, bourbon, soy sauce, garlic, ginger and red pepper flakes until well blended.
  • In a medium bowl, toss the shrimp with half of the marinade, saving the rest for later. Marinate the shrimp for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook 1 to 2 minutes on each side until the shrimp is pink and beginning to brown. Serve shrimp with cooked rice, parsley and remaining sauce.

While it may sound like a plain, generic item you see on a menu at the food court at the mall, honey-garlic shrimp is actually one of the most exciting and delicious garlic shrimp recipes I know. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory while still packing a substantial garlic punch, plus it's extremely fast and simple to make. This recipe uses half the honey that typical recipes use and allows the natural sweetness of the shrimp to shine through. Serve over hot cooked rice or the starchy base of your choice such as noodles.

1 pound large raw shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
2 tablespoons honey
½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 tablespoon soy sauce, or more to taste
1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce, or to taste
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced green onion, or to taste

Steps:

  • Make sure shrimp are fully thawed and well drained. Keep in the refrigerator while you make the marinade.
  • Whisk garlic, honey, ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce together in a bowl.
  • Add shrimp and toss thoroughly with a spatula for 2 minutes until completely coated. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes; toss occasionally while marinating.
  • Brush a large nonstick skillet with oil and heat over high heat until you begin to see small wisps of smoke. Use tongs to immediately transfer shrimp into the hot skillet in a single layer. Set excess marinade aside.
  • Sear shrimp for 2 minutes, then flip over. Dump in marinade and cook for 1 minute. Turn off heat and flip shrimp once more; let sit for about 1 minute. The marinade in the pan will reduce down to a beautiful glaze just from the residual heat in the pan. Garnish with green onion.

3/4 c honey
1/4 c molasses
1/4 c bourbon
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
2 Tbsp pineapple juice
1 Tbsp dijon mustard
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tsp hot sauce, adjust to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Combine and whisk together all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer 8-10 minutes. Stir frequently. Do not walk away...it will boil over!
  • 2. Make extra and keep in the refrigerator.
  • 3. If you wish to use it as a marinade, be sure to simmer it for 5-7 minutes after removing your fish/meat before serving it as a dipping sauce.

¼ cup Bourbon
¼ cup Ketchup
½ cup Honey
1 Tsp Soy Sauce
1 Tsp Salt & Pepper
1 Tbsp Garlic Powder (or 4 cloves of minced garlic)
1 Tbsp Onion Powder
1 Tsp Red Pepper Flakes
¼ cup Cider Vinegar
¼ cup Olive Oil
Freshly chopped cilantro or parsley

Steps:

  • To make the Honey Bourbon Sauce, combine all the sauce ingredients in a mixing jar. Cover and shake until combined. Or, just combine all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk until combined.
  • To simmer the sauce, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and pour the sauce in it. Allow the sauce to simmer for 2-3 minutes. Now, Throw in the cleaned and deveined shrimps. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Cook for 4 minutes and toss to combine the Shrimps with the sauce
  • Once the shrimps gets cooked, garnish with some chopped cilantro and serve immediately.
