"I have been championing for more bars to have dedicated alcohol- free drinks on their menus. This one is light, bright and refreshing," says Julia.

Yield 1 mocktail (plus extra syrup)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 tablespoons clover or acacia honey
1 tablespoon hot water
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 ounce yuzu juice
1/2 ounce distilled nonalcoholic spirits (such as Seedlip Garden 108)
Splash of ginger beer
1 bay leaf
1 mint leaf

Steps:

  • Make the honey syrup: Combine the honey and hot water in a small bowl. Mix until the honey is dissolved.
  • Make the drink: Combine the lemon juice, yuzu juice, spirits, ginger beer and 3/4 ounce of the honey syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well.
  • Strain the drink into a chilled coupe glass. Make a small incision in the bay leaf; poke the mint leaf through the slit. Garnish the drink with the bay-mint leaf.

  • Overnight Oatmeal. Do you like oatmeal? Do you have an Instant Pot? Get these two together and ready and waiting hot breakfasts are in your future.
  • Sausage & Potatoes. This one does require some prep ahead of time, but it will set you up for a quick and easy breakfast all week long. First, find a compliant Bright Line Eating® breakfast sausage (I prefer Bob Evans Original Roll Sausage because it has no added sugar).
  • Hard Boiled Eggs & Rice Cakes. Another super-fast breakfast option would be hard boiled eggs and rice cakes. Just hard boil your eggs for the week, peel them and put them in the fridge.
  • Sprouted Toast and Peanut Butter. The next easy Bright Line Eating® breakfast option is toast and peanut butter. Yes, it can be done if you do it right and follow the guidelines.
  • Sous Vide Egg Bites & 7 Grain Cereal. Our final quick and easy Bright Line Eating® breakfast option requires some special equipment. But it is so convenient and delicious.

  • Pre-prep Your Salad Veggies. The simple act of peeling, cutting, and chopping the various toppings for your salad and storing them in separate containers can make assembling your salad so much quicker.
  • Go European. One of the challenges that Bright Line Eating® newbies face is adjusting to the substantial quantify of salad you eat with dinner. And, if like most Americans, you eat your salad first, then your other food may be quite cold before you get to it.
  • Warm that Plate. If you just don’t like the idea of eating your salad last, try a different Bright Line Eating® hack. Heat your plate before adding your hot food to it.
  • Cook then Combine. This Bright Line Eating® hack is one I wish I had thought of earlier. Weighing food is a bright line, and trying to weigh different foods that are cooked together can be tedious.
  • Pre-measure Oatmeal Toppings in Snack Sized Baggies. Oatmeal with toppings can be delicious! But the pulling out of everything adds quite a bit of time each morning.
  • Have a Meal in Mind that Doesn’t Require Weighing. Occasionally you may need to be able to manage a meal without a scale. My wife has a simple breakfast that doesn’t require a scale – 6 Triscuits, 2 fried eggs, and 1 banana.
  • Keep Your Scale on the Counter. Ease of access will increase actual use. The more steps it takes to put something away or to take something out, the less likely it will be consistently used.
  • Rearrange Cupboards for Easy Access to Plates. This Bright Line Eating® hack is in the same vein as #7. Rearrange your kitchen cabinets so larger bowls, plates and serving dishes are on higher shelves and your smaller bowls and plates are on lower shelves.
  • Utilize your Instant Pot’s Delayed Start. This is my personal favorite Bright Line Eating® hack, and a fantastic way to start the day! If you have an Instant Pot, before you go to bed, prep your oatmeal or hot cereal and set the delay start timer.
  • Understand not all Lettuce Weighs the Same. Iceberg and Romaine are much heavier than mixed greens, so if you want a larger salad as a base for a meal than choose the lighter lettuce, but if you want a smaller salad, then choose a heavier lettuce.
