2 eggs, beaten
2 cups brown sugar
3 tablespoons shortening, melted
4 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups sour milk or 2 cups buttermilk
1 cup english walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350.
  • Grease a loaf pan.
  • Beat the eggs,gradually adding in the sugar.
  • Add the melted shortening.
  • Sift together the flour,salt,baking powder& soda.
  • Add to the egg/sugar mixture,alternatly with milk.
  • Add the chopped nuts,blending only enough to dampen the flour.
  • Pour mixture into the loaf pan.
  • Bake appox 45 minutes,or until bread slightly shrinks from the sides of pan.

4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups packed brown sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups buttermilk
4 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, salt and brown sugar.
  • Stir in the eggs, buttermilk and melted butter all at once.
  • Mix just enough to moisten.
  • Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until golden brown and a tooth pick inserted into center of a loaf comes out clean.

2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
  • In a medium bowl, beat the egg. Add sugar gradually. Beat until light and fluffy. Add melted butter and blend together. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Stir until mixed together. Lastly, add walnuts which have been dusted with flour.
  • Pour into a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  • Bake 1 hour or until done.
