15 Minute Southern Hot Honey Butter Shrimp. image

This dish uses simple pantry ingredients making it perfect for busy nights!

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/2 pounds raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined, tail-on or off
1 1/2 tablespoons cajun seasoning
black pepper
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
4 tablespoons salted butter
3-4 cloves garlic, minced or grated
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves ((or 2 teaspoons dried thyme))
zest and juice from 1 lemon
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons salted butter
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (using more or less to your taste)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
kosher salt

Steps:

  • 1. Pat the shrimp dry, then toss with the cajun seasoning and a large pinch of pepper.2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil shimmers, add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 2 minutes per side. Add the butter, garlic, thyme, and lemon zest. Continue to cook the shrimp in the butter until the garlic begins to caramelize and turns a light golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the lemon juice. 3. To make the spicy honey sauce. Melt together the honey, butter, cayenne, chili powder, paprika, and a pinch of salt. 4. Serve the shrimp topped with flaky salt and drizzled with spicy hot honey sauce. I like to serve over polenta and/or with a side of crusty bread.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together: juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp honey, 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning and 1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley. Add 1 lb shrimp and stir well to coat. Cover and marinate in the fridge for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • To make the garnish: In a small bowl, stir together 1/2 Tbsp chopped parsley with 1/2 tsp grated lemon zest - cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Preheat Oven to 450˚F. Transfer shrimp to a baking dish large enough to hold shrimp in a single layer. Bake uncovered until firm (8-10 minutes). Don't over-bake or shrimp can become rubbery. Sprinkle the top with optional garnish and serve. P.S. The sauce left in the pan makes for an excellent bread dip :).
