- Pour fruit in cast iron Dutch oven. Sprinkle dry cake mix over fruit. Dot margarine on top of cake mix. Cover tightly, set in coals of campfire, putting coals on lid also, and let cook until cake is lightly browned. Rotate Dutch oven one quarter turn every 15 minutes for even cooking, especially if the active fire is only on one side of the Dutch oven. Recipe can be halved easily.

Steps:
- 1. pour the can of pie filling into the dutch oven
- 2. pour the cake mix on top of the pie filling--do not mix them up
- 3. place 2 or 3 pats of butter on top
- 4. sprinkle with cinnamon if you would like
- 5. Cover the oven--place about 15-20 charcoal briquets on top of the oven and about 8-12 underneath
- 6. bake for 20 minutes give or take remember to check often so the cake doesn't burn
