APPLE BROWNIES
This was my Mom's recipe. Easy and quick to make. Apples and walnuts are packed into a cinnamon spiced blonde brownie. Always a hit when I bring it to parties. Very moist and great to make in the fall when apples are plentiful.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, beat together the melted butter, sugar, and egg until fluffy. Fold in the apples and walnuts. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Stir the flour mixture into the wet mixture until just blended. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Bake 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

- Heat oven to 350°F. Mix Bisquick and granulated sugar in medium bowl. Stir in milk until blended.
- Pour into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Top with apples; sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Pour boiling water over apples.
- Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 15x10 inch jellyroll pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, quick cooking oats, brown sugar, and baking soda. Stir in the melted butter. Mix until crumbly. This is the crust. Press 1/2 of this mixture into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 8 minutes in preheated oven.
- In a small pan, over medium heat combine the caramel topping and the remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil and cook for 3 to 5 minutes. This is the caramel filling.
- Spread apple slices evenly over the baked crust. Sprinkle on the nuts. Then Pour the caramel filling over the apple layer. Crumble the remaining crust mixture over the top of everything. Bake again for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before cutting into bars.

- Insert a 5-inch-long nontoxic twig or wooden dowel into the top of each apple. Prepare an ice-water bath. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
- Combine sugar and corn syrup in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon, until dark golden (about 12 minutes after mixture comes to a boil). Slowly pour in heavy cream in a steady stream, stirring vigorously to combine. Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate until completely melted.
- Briefly plunge saucepan into the ice-water bath to stop the cooking. Dip one apple at a time into the caramel, and use a spoon to coat the top and sides. Transfer to prepared baking sheet until set.

- Core apples and cut into ¼-inch (6 mm) slices, then cut those slices in half width-wise.

- Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using two greased 9 inch round baking pans.
- Cool for 10 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a large bowl, whisk milk, pudding mixes, apple pie spice and brown sugar for two minutes.
- Let stand until soft set.
- Cut one cake layer, if needed, to fit evenly into an 8 quart punch bowl.
- Poke holes in cake with a long wooden skewer.
- Gradually pour a third of the caramel topping over cake.
- Spread with a spatula.
- Sprinkle with 1/2 cup pecans.
- Spread with half of the pudding mixture.
- Spread one can of pie filling over pudding mixture.
- Spread one carton of whipped topping on top of pie filling.
- Top with remaining cake and repeat the layers.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel topping on top and sprinkle with remaining pecans.
- Refrigerate until serving.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9 X 9 brownie pan or pyrex dish with parchment paper that extends up the sides of the pan. Butter parchment paper and set aside.
- In a medium bowl whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. In another bowl beat together butter, sugar and egg with a hand mixer until light and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add chopped pecans and apples, and stir by hand until combined. Add flour mixture, and stir until combined.
- Spread batter in pan. Place caramel candies in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds, stir and then microwave for another 30 seconds. Drizzle caramel over batter, top with whole pecans and bake until golden, about 35 to 40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes, then cut into 12 bars. If you like an extra caramel flavor for topping, drizzle additional melted caramel over the top of the cooled brownies and allow to set before cutting.
