Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp image

When our class visited an apple farm this fall, we realized that we all shared a common love apples dipped in caramel. We created this really easy dessert that the whole family can enjoy.

5 large Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
½ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
¼ cup water
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup quick cooking oats
1 cup butter, softened
1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F (175 degree C).
  • In a medium size bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and water; spread evenly into a 8x8 inch pan. In another bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, oats, and butter; spoon mixture evenly over apples.
  • In a heavy sauce pan over low heat, melt the caramels with the evaporated milk. Heat , stirring frequently, until mixture has a smooth consistency. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the crumble.
  • Bake in preheated oven for about 45 minutes (apple mixture will bubble and topping will be golden brown).

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup quick-cooking oats
½ cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups pitted tart red cherries
1 cup water
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, and cinnamon together in a bowl until crumbly. Press half the mixture into the bottom of an 8x8-inch pan; top with cherries.
  • Combine water, white sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract in a saucepan; bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved and syrup is clear, about 5 minutes. Pour syrup over cherries; top with remaining brown sugar-oat mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until topping is browned and cherry filling is bubbling, 30 to 35 minutes.

This is an old family recipe! Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar or spread your choice of pie filling on top before serving.

cooking spray
1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix with pudding (such as Betty Crocker® Super Moist®)
1 cup water
3 eggs
½ cup vegetable oil
1 (32 ounce) container ricotta cheese
6 eggs, lightly beaten
¾ cup white sugar

Steps:

  • Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Mix cake mix, water, 3 eggs, and oil in large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until well-combined, about 2 minutes. Pour batter into baking pan.
  • Combine ricotta cheese, 6 remaining eggs, and sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Pour over cake batter in the pan. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Remove plastic wrap from pan.
  • Bake cake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 70 to 75 minutes.

1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
5 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup Splenda brown sugar blend

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Stir well together apples, cinnamon, salt and water, place in a 9x9 greased pan.
  • Crumb Topping----mix together butter, quick oats, and Brown Sugar Splenda.
  • Sprinkle crumb topping on top of apples.
  • Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes.
