PAN-FRIED CHIVE FLOWERS



Pan-Fried Chive Flowers image

This is a great side dish to meat or fish. It's very easy to make and a good way to use up all those purple flowers that chives make. Make sure when you pick them that the flowers are still young and tender.

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1 ½ cups fresh chive flowers, rinsed and well-drained
1 clove garlic, minced
salt
black pepper

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add butter; heat until melted, about 30 seconds. Add chive flowers, garlic, and salt; cook and stir until soft and tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Grind black pepper over mixture before serving.

1 pound raw white mushrooms
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
About 12 chive blossoms
1/3 cup chopped chives
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Wipe the dirt off the mushrooms with paper towels. Slice the mushrooms and arrange them on a serving platter. Sprinkle the oil over the top (because the mushrooms absorb oil like a sponge, you may find it easier to brush them with the oil so that it is more evenly distributed).
  • Sprinkle the mushrooms with blossoms and chives and season with salt and pepper.

The chive blossoms taste quite oniony and add a lot of taste to the dressing and are also nice added to the salad greens. Love spring with all the fresh new salad makings!!

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons chives, finely snipped
1 garlic clove, smashed
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper, fresh ground
3 -4 chive blossoms, pulled apart
1 cup lettuce, leaf type, torn small
1 cup watercress leaf
1 large mushroom, sliced thinly
1 tomatoes, cubed
6 snap peas, cut in thirds
2 large red radishes, thinly sliced
1/4 cup cucumber, peeled and diced
3 spring onions, chopped
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper, fresh ground
3 -4 chive blossoms (to garnish) (optional)

Steps:

  • Chive Blossom Dressing:.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together all dressing ingredients except chive blossoms.
  • Sprinkle chive blossom pieces on top of dressing.
  • Spring Salad:.
  • Layer all ingredients in a salad bowl, starting with the lettuce and watercress.
  • Season layers to taste.
  • Pour desired amount of chive blossom dressing over.
  • Toss lightly and garnish with full chive blossoms if desired.
