This rich chocolate spoon bread has a thin, crisp crust and a soft, moist interior. Serve it with fresh berries and whipped cream.

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, plus more for skillet
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
4 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch seasoned cast-iron skillet; set aside. Place chocolate and butter in a medium heatproof bowl. Set over a pan of simmering water; stir until almost melted. Remove from heat; let cool, stirring. Set aside.
  • Into a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Sift again, and set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs and vanilla until thick and pale, about 6 minutes. Beat in the sugar until fluffy. Stir in the chocolate mixture. Fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into prepared skillet. Bake until spoon bread is set but still soft in the center, about 40 minutes (cook less for a more molten center). Let cool 10 minutes; serve warm in the skillet.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
  • Combine the melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Decorate with walnut halves, if desired.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with crumbs, not wet. Cool on wire rack.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
4 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped almonds
8 half-pint jars and lids
3 cups hot water
1/2 cup refrigerated nondairy creamer
6 ounces white candy coating, chopped
1/3 cup sliced almonds

Steps:

  • In large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in chocolate syrup and vanilla. Add flour and baking powder, stirring just until moistened. Stir in chopped almonds., Spoon mixture into 8 greased half-pint jars. Center lids on jars and screw on bands until fingertip tight. Add hot water to a 7-qt. oval slow cooker; place jars in slow cooker. Cook, covered, on high until a toothpick inserted in center of brownies comes out clean, 2-3 hours. Remove jars from slow cooker to wire racks to cool completely., Meanwhile, bring creamer to a boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Stir in candy coating until melted. Remove from the heat; cool to room temperature. Spread ganache over cooled brownies. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch, well-seasoned cast iron skillet, set aside.
  • Place chocolate and butter in a medium heat-proof bowl. Set over a pan of boiling water and whisk together until almost blended. Remove from heat and let cool. Set aside.
  • Sift togetther the flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Sift again and set aside.
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and vanilla until thick and pale, about 6 minutes. Beat in the sugar until fluffy. Stir in the chocolate mixture. Fold the dry ingredients gently until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into prepared skillet. Bake until spoon bread is set but still soft in center, about 40 minutes. (cook less for a more molten center.) Let cool 10 minutes serve warm. Dust with confectioner's sugar to garnish, if desired.
