This American chocolate buttercream frosting is decadent, indulgent, and chocolatey. It has just the right amount of sweetness and is perfect for spreading or piping on cakes or Chocolate Cupcakes.

Steps:
- With a handheld mixer or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat butter on high speed for about 3 minutes or until creamy and lightened in color, scraping down the bowl as needed.
- Add confectioners sugar, cocoa powder, 3 Tbsp heavy cream, 2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Beat on low speed until sugar is incorporated then increase to medium/high speed and beat for 3 minutes, scraping down the bowl several times to ensure everything is well blended. Add another Tablespoon of heavy cream if needed to thin the frosting.

CREAMY CHOCOLATE FROSTING
I've been using this chocolate frosting recipe forever, and several friends now use it as their 'favorite frosting!' It's smooth, creamy and not-too-dark. I just wanted to share it with chocolate lovers everywhere! It will frost, but not fill, an 8 or 9 inch layer cake.

- In a medium bowl, sift together the confectioners' sugar and cocoa, and set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream butter until smooth, then gradually beat in sugar mixture alternately with evaporated milk. Blend in vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. If necessary, adjust consistency with more milk or sugar.

- Place the chocolate chips in a glass bowl and microwave them for 90 seconds, at 50% power, stir and microwave again for 30 seconds at 50% power. Stir until smooth. Let cool to almost room temperature, do not skip the cooling step. (The chocolate can also be melted in a glass bowl over a simmering pan of water on the stove. - In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter at medium speed until pale and fluffy, 1-2 minutes. Add half of the powdered sugar and beat until well combined, then add the other half and beat until smooth. Add cocoa powder and beat until completely creamy and smooth. Beat in vanilla and melted chocolate until combined. Add heavy cream, a bit at a time, until desired consistency. Add more powdered sugar if necessary, until frosting is spreadable. Add a bit of salt, to taste, to cut sweetness.
- Use immediately or store in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days. Before using, bring to room temperature and whisk by hand until smooth.
