Classic Tuna Pasta Salad image

A classic tuna pasta salad, perfect for lunch, dinner, picnics or BBQs.

12 oz. rotini pasta (about 4 cups)
1 can tuna packed in water (drained and flaked)
1 stalk celery (finely chopped)
1/3 cup red onion (finely diced)
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise or salad dressing (*see Note 1)
1 1/2 Tbsp. ketchup or tomato paste
3 Tbsp. sour cream
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
1 1/2 Tbsp. white vinegar
Salt and pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Cook pasta to al dente. Drain well, then rinse with cold water until cooled.
  • While pasta is cooking, prepare the celery and red onion. Mix the dressing by combining all the dressing ingredients and mixing well.
  • Place the rinsed, cooled pasta into a large bowl. Add the tuna, celery, red onion and dressing and stir well to combine. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 2 hours before eating. Taste before serving and season with additional salt and pepper, to taste.

This Tuna Pasta Salad with shell noodles, peas, tuna, celery, and Greek yogurt is fast, healthy, and a dish your whole family can enjoy!

8 ounces small shells pasta (, or your favorite bite-size pasta)
7 ounces canned albacore white tuna, packed in water (, drained)
2 ribs celery (, chopped)
1/4 cup red onion (, chopped)
1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
dried dill weed (, to taste, optional)
salt and freshly ground black pepper (, to taste)

Steps:

  • Cook noodles according to package instructions, until al dente. Drain.
  • In a large bowl add chopped onion and celery, peas, cooked pasta, and drained tuna.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the mayo and Greek yogurt.
  • Stir half of the sauce into the pasta mixture and toss to evenly coat. Season with salt and pepper and dried dil, to taste.
  • Refrigerate pasta and remaining sauce separately, covered, for 30 min. Stir in remaining sauce and serve immediately.

This crunchy tuna pasta salad is something I have been making for years for my family. Tuna pasta salad makes for a great lunch, dinner, or side dish on those hot sticky days, (like today's 96 F.).

1 - 1lb (454g) box, large pasta shells, i use barilla large shells n.93
1 - medium onion, chopped
2 - stalks celery, chopped
6-8 - sweet pickle slices, cut in half then in half again
1- 1 1/2 cup(s) mayonnaise or miracle whip
2-4 tablespoon(s) bread and butter pickle juice
1 tablespoon(s) parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon(s) celery seed
1/2 to 1 teaspoon(s) sunny spain seasoning, (see note)
- salt and pepper, to taste
1-2 can(s) starkist solid white albacore tuna in water - 12 oz can

Steps:

  • Directions: Cook the pasta shells according to package directions, in salted water. In a large bowl combine, mixing together the onion, parsley, tuna, celery and pickles. Add the cooked, drained, rinsed and cooled macaroni. In a small bowl combine mixing well, Miracle Whip, pickle juice, Sunny Spain Seasoning, celery seed, salt and pepper. Taste the dressing before adding to noodle mixture, and adjust the seasonings, pickle juice, or Miracle Whip to your taste. Fold in the dressing into the pasta mixture until well mixed. Chill for at least 2 hours for best flavor.

1 (16 ounce) package cavatappi (corkscrew macaroni)
1 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey
½ tablespoon garlic powder
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 (8 ounce) cans tuna, drained
3 stalks celery, sliced
1 red onion, diced
1 cup peas
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
½ cup chopped green olives
1 teaspoon lemon juice, or to taste
4 hard-boiled eggs, halved

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; cook cavatappi at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 9 to 10 minutes. Drain and transfer to a large bowl.
  • Whisk mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, honey, garlic powder, salt, and pepper for dressing together in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  • Stir tuna, celery, onion, peas, parsley, olives, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice into pasta. Pour dressing over salad, toss until coated, and add hard-boiled eggs on top. Serve.

  • Start a pot of salted water to a boil. Boil the pasta until it is just al dente. Start tasting a few minutes before the package recommends: you want it to be tender but still a little firm on the inside; usually around 7 to 8 minutes. In the last 1 minute, add the peas. Drain the pasta and peas, then rinse with cold water.
  • Meanwhile, thinly slice the green onions. Mince the red onion. Drain the tuna and flake it with a fork. Place them in a large bowl with the mayonnaise, white vinegar, dill, and kosher salt.
  • Once the pasta and peas are cooked, add them to the bowl and mix. Taste and adjust flavors if desired, adding black pepper as necessary. Serve immediately. Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days: before eating, allow to come to room temperature. You may want to add a swirl of mayo or sour cream and a pinch of salt to refresh the texture and flavor.
