Creamy Cabbage with Noodles image

A terrific side dish that pairs well with ham, pork roast or chops, or kielbasa. Easy and comforting!

5 tablespoons butter, divided
½ medium head cabbage, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 large onion, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 teaspoon Diamond Crystal® Kosher Salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
8 ounces dried egg noodles

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium high heat in large saute pan. Add cabbage and onions and season; season with 1 teaspoon Diamond Crystal® Kosher Salt and 1 teaspoon black pepper. Stir; cover and cook for until cabbage and onions are soft, about 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle in flour, stir. Cook 2 more minutes. Slowly stir in broth and cream; simmer until slightly thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook egg noodles in the boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain.
  • Add cooked noodles to cabbage mixture. Stir to combine. Transfer to prepared casserole dish. Dot with 2 tablespoons butter.
  • Cover and bake until mixture is hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes.

Steps:

  • Cook Egg Noodles in a salted pot of water.
  • When Noodles are done drain and set aside.
  • In skillet sauté Onions in Butter until transparent.
  • Add Cabbage and sauté around 5 minutes (or until tender).
  • Mix the cooked Noodles into the skillet.
  • Add Salt and Pepper and (optional) Sour Cream.
  • Serve and enjoy.

Olive oil
2 cups thinly sliced yellow or white onions (1/4-inch thick)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 cups thinly sliced green cabbage (1/4-inch thick)
1 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken stock
8 ounces large egg noodles
1/4 cup roughly chopped or torn flat-leaf parsley
1/4 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Place a large saute pan over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, add a film of oil along with the onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions begin to soften and caramelize, 2 to 3 minutes. Move the onions to one side of the pan, and then add the butter, cabbage and a pinch of salt. Cook until everything is caramelized and softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the chicken stock. Simmer this mixture until the cabbage is cooked through and the liquid has reduced, about 5 minutes.
  • In the meantime, drop your pasta. Cook at a gentle boil for 2 minutes less than the package directions. Then drain and add to the cabbage mixture. Gently fold in the parsley and sour cream and serve immediately, adding black pepper and a drizzle of oil.

Steps:

  • Melt butter in large skillet.
  • Add onion and sauté until transparent.

5 slices bacon, diced
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups chopped cabbage (1-inch squares)
3 cups cooked noodles (4 ounces uncooked)
1 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Saute bacon until crisp in large frying pan. Remove bacon; set aside. Stir sugar and salt into bacon drippings. Add cabbage, stirring until cabbage is coated with bacon drippings. Cover and cook 7 to 10 minutes. Add cooked noodles and bacon, stirring to blend. Adjust seasoning to taste. , Spoon into 2-quart baking casserole; cover tightly and bake at 325° for 45 minutes. 1 onion, chopped

Steps:

  • Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Stir in the egg noodles; return to a boil. Cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the noodles are cooked through, but still firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain; return to the pot and stir in the butter.
