Date Pecan Balls Recipe

Time: 50 minutes



  1. butter
  2. sugar
  3. vanilla
  4. all-purpose flour
  5. cinnamon
  6. clove
  7. nutmeg
  8. pecans
  9. pitted dates
  10. icing sugar


  1. cream butter with sugar in large bowl
  2. mix in vanilla
  3. stir in flour and spices
  4. add pecans and dates and mix thoroughly
  5. shape into walnut-size balls
  6. transfer to wax paper lined tray
  7. freeze 15 minutes or refrigerate overnight
  8. preheat oven to 350 degrees f
  9. grease baking sheets
  10. arrange cookies , spacing 1 inch apart
  11. bake until golden , 15-20 minutes
  12. roll in icing sugar
  13. let cool slightly
  14. roll in icing sugar again
  15. store in airtight container

See more About 5 minutes into cooking the sugar and dates (on medium heat) I got worried but was determined to follow the recipe. At 9 minutes i thought "this can't be right it is going to be like toffee" and took it off the burner and stirred the other ingredients in. Tasted great while hot but when I rolled it into balls and they cooled they became too hard to even bite into.
