HAMBURGER TOPPINGS
Few cuts of meat have as much going for them - or for the cook - as ground beef. Long considered a meat-stretcher, it's easy on the wallet and very versatile. You can prepare it for a snack, sandwich, or main dish. It can be kept "family-friendly" or dressed up for company. For the hamburger-lovers out there, put a new face on your patties with these delicious toppings. If you're a fan of cheese on burgers, don't limit yourself to the typical American, cheddar, and Swiss choices. Instead, give hard or semi-soft goat or sheep's cheese, Romano or blue cheese a try. Then there's my favorite, a burger topped with a slice of melted brie. Yummmmm!

DRESSED-UP GROUND BEEF
This is a ground beef casserole that gets a little pizzaz by using cream cheese, but it is kept basic by the biscuit topping. This is quick and easy, especially if you use refrigerated biscuits. I prefer to use homemade or Mary B's frozen biscuits, thawed....I just don't like refrigerated biscuits. But to make this quick and easy, I've included it in the ingredient list.

The tangy homemade sauce that tops these mouthwatering burgers helps them stand out from the rest. This recipe is a cinch to throw together. Because the bacon cooks on the grill alongside the burgers, cleanup is a breeze, too.-Carol Mizell, Ruston, Louisiana

12 INTERNATIONAL WAYS TO DRESS UP YOUR HAMBURGER
From homemaderecipes.com
Reviews 1Published 2018-07-02Estimated Reading Time 5 mins
- All American Burger. The classic all American hamburger with lettuce, ketchup, some tomato and mayonnaise, and/or a bit of mustard, is a great go-to. That said, it is fun and easy to change things up and try something new.
- Mushroom, Swiss, and Caramelized Onions. Another American favorite is the mushroom and Swiss burger. It has always been one of my personal favorites too, but when I make it at home, I dress it up even more with some caramelized onions.
- The Hawaiian Hamburger. You’ve heard of a Hawaiian style pizza, right? How about adding a bit of pineapple and ham or bacon to your burger, too. You can even grill the pineapple first.
- Guacamole Burger. Guacamole isn’t just for nachos. It makes a great condiment for hamburgers, and can be paired with tomatoes, hot sauce, and sour cream. ¡
- The Brava Burger. Living in Spain, I often am served the classic Catalonian appetizer or side, patatas bravas. Patatas bravas are potatoes that are usually served cut into small pieces and fried, topped with aioli (garlic mayonnaise), and a bit of hot sauce.
- The Pink sauce burger. Perhaps I’m a bit impartial to Spain, seeing as I live here, but I couldn’t make up a list of condiments for hamburgers without including the salsa rosa, or pink sauce, commonly used here in Spain as a dressing for salads or seafood cocktails.
- Pesto and Provolone Burger. Above photo courtesy of (kevineats) My toddler’s favorite food is pasta with pesto sauce. It’s really more about the pesto sauce, though, and he’ll eat just about anything topped with it.
- The Italian Burger. Most pizzas are baked after the toppings have been placed atop the cheese, but one of my favorite pizzas is served with ruccula and proscuitto after it has been taken out of the oven.
- The Mediterranean burger. One of my favorite sandwiches of all times was served with roasted red peppers and eggplant. To be honest, I wasn’t that excited about the combination when I first saw it, but after trying it, it was love at first bite.
- Date and Cheese Burger. The sweetness of dates surprisingly pairs perfectly with a hamburger. Dicing up dates, and mixing them with the cream cheese of your choice, they turn into the perfect condiment for a Middle East inspired burger.

- Caramelized onions. Caramelized onions don’t have the sharp flavors that raw onions do. The rich onion flavor is there, but without the bite. Saute sliced onions in a bit of oil or melted butter in a pan until they go limp and start to brown.
- Flavored mayonnaise. I am a huge fan of flavored mayonnaise, particularly of the chipotle variety. Yum! (It’s delicious with fries, too.) But, if spicy isn’t your game, you can make garlic or Herbed Mayonnaise very easily.
- Avocado slices or guacamole. Avocado goes beautifully on salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta (yes, really) and burgers. Sliced avocado can get kinda slippery, but if you slightly mash them onto the bun, or better yet, make guacamole, you’ll have a delectable treat on your burger.
- Rich cheeses. I am a big cheese freak. I could live happily on bread and cheese. Melt some on a burger and wow! Try out rich cheeses like Brie, Bleu, Gruyere, sharp cheddar, or feta, to give you hamburger some extra pizzazz.
- A fancy bun. Years ago, I started making these homemade buns. We haven’t gone back. They are so delicious and easy to make with a bread machine, I don’t really want to buy the sponges that pass for bread at the grocery store.
