EASY PEASY HUMMUS WITH FLAVOR VARIATIONS



Easy Peasy Hummus With Flavor Variations image

Much better than store bought! Once you try this you will never look back. Add more tahini to your liking, up to 1/4 cup. Flavor variations below.

1 (15 1/2 ounce) can garbanzo beans (chick peas)
3 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 garlic cloves, minced then smashed

Steps:

  • Drain chick peas, reserve 1/4 cup liquid.
  • Add all listed ingredients to a food processor or blender.
  • If using a food processor, pulse a few times then stream in reserved liquid to desired consistency. If using a blender add liquid to ingredients before blending.
  • Process until smooth, I like to run it 3-4 min for ultra smooth consistency.
  • Flavor as desired right in the blender! You can blend with pesto, roasted red peppers, chipotle tabasco or even avocado or guacamole. Drizzle with pine nuts, olive oil, parsley or cilantro for a beautiful mediterranean style presentation.

Serve with a small Greek salad of tomatoes, cucumber and iceberg lettuce, Feta cheese and black olives (if you are splashing out for the boss). If you want to serve it a little more spicy, then add a half teaspoon of paprika and a full desert spoonfull of the puree before blending. Couldn't be easier? Enjoy.

½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cumin
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
¼ teaspoon sesame oil
¼ cup water

Steps:

  • Pour the rinsed chickpeas onto half the area of a kitchen towel. Fold the other half of the towel on top of the beans, and rub them so that the skins start to come off.
  • Place all of the peeled beans in the bowl of a food processor, along with the salt, cumin, and garlic. Turn the processor on to break up the mixture.
  • With the food processor running, pour in the lemon juice, olive oil, sesame oil, and water, and let the processor run until the mixture is smooth.
  • Serve with your choice of dipping chips or veggies.

1 x 400g can chickpea , don't drain
1 tbsp tahini paste
1 fat garlic clove , chopped
3 tbsp 0% fat Greek yogurt
good squeeze lemon juice

Steps:

  • Drain the chickpeas into a sieve set over a bowl or jug to catch the liquid. Tip the chickpeas, tahini, garlic and yogurt into a food processor or blender and whizz to smooth.
  • Whizz in a tbsp of the chickpea liquid at a time until you have a nice consistency, then scrape into a bowl.
  • Stir in a squeeze of lemon juice and season to taste.
