1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, at room temperature
2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning
1 cup finely shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
½ cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Mix cream cheese and bagel seasoning together. Add Cheddar cheese and mix thoroughly. Shape mixture into a ball with your hands or a spoon.
  • Roll the cheese ball in chopped pecans until completely coated. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

My mother moved in with us about eight years ago and started making this side dish. Now that she is her ninety's, I've taken over the duty of making these unique rice balls. Everyone in our family is thrilled to see them when they are placed on the table.-Elizabeth Blake, Chesapeake, Virginia

4-1/2 cups water
2 cups uncooked long grain rice
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
1-3/4 cups seasoned bread crumbs
Oil for deep-fat frying

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, bring the water, rice, butter, salt and pepper to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-18 minutes or until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender. Cool slightly., In a large bowl, combine the eggs, cheese, parsley and rice. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Place bread crumbs in a shallow bowl. Shape 1/2 cupfuls of rice mixture into balls; roll in bread crumbs., In a deep-fat fryer or electric skillet, heat oil to 375°. Fry rice balls, a few at a time until golden brown, 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

The base for these homemade bagels is a popular 2-ingredient pizza dough recipe. No yeast, no waiting for dough to rise, no boiling necessary. In and out of the air fryer in about 15 minutes. Optional toppings are everything bagel seasoning, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or dried onion flakes.

1 ¼ cups self-rising flour
1 cup full-fat plain Greek yogurt
1 large egg white, beaten
3 teaspoons everything bagel seasoning

Steps:

  • Using a fork, mix flour and Greek yogurt together in a medium bowl until a crumbly dough forms. If mixture is too thick, add a little more yogurt or if too sticky, add a bit more flour.
  • Transfer dough to a lightly floured work surface, and knead until smooth, 5 to 7 minutes. Divide the dough evenly into 4 balls, rolling and stretching each into 3/4-inch thick ropes that are about 8- to 9-inches long. Connect both ends, pinching and sealing to form a bagel. Brush with egg white, and sprinkle with bagel seasoning.
  • Preheat an air fryer to 280 degrees F (137 degrees C). Line the fryer basket with a parchment liner or spray lightly with cooking spray.
  • Place the bagels in the basket, and cook until golden brown, 15 to 16 minutes. Do not crowd the basket, and cook in two batches if your air fryer is small.
  • Remove to a rack, and cool for about 15 minutes before slicing.

  • Push rice to outsides of pan to create a well in the center. Add remaining 1 tbsp. oil. Pour eggs into well and cook, stirring, until curds form and eggs are fully cooked, about 2 minutes. Stir eggs into rice.
  • Transfer to serving bowls, then top with sliced onion, lox, capers, and a pat of cream cheese to create a composed look. Sprinkle each with remaining Everything Bagel Seasoning. Eat with chopsticks, mixing everything together as you go.
