Good Old Fashioned Pancakes image

This is a great recipe that I found in my Grandma's recipe book. Judging from the weathered look of this recipe card, this was a family favorite.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth.
  • Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

A few tablespoons of sugar and splash of vanilla add the perfect amount of sweetness, but not too much, so you can still pour maple syrup over these fluffy hot cakes. Made in one bowl and ready in just 20 minutes, these golden stacks of pancakes could be on your breakfast table this morning.

2 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
3 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla, if desired

Steps:

  • Brush griddle or skillet with vegetable oil, or spray with cooking spray. Heat griddle to 350°F, or heat skillet over medium-low heat.
  • In medium bowl, stir all ingredients with whisk or fork until blended.
  • For each pancake, pour slightly less than 1/4 cup batter onto hot griddle. Cook about 30 seconds or until edges are dry. Turn; cook other side until golden brown.

Here's what you need: flour, baking powder, milk, butter, egg yolks, egg whites, maple syrup

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups flour, sifted
4 tablespoons baking powder
4 cups milk, warm to the touch
¾ cup butter, melted
3 egg yolks
4 egg whites
maple syrup, to serve

Steps:

  • Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, add the butter, milk, and egg yolks, stirring to combine.
  • In a third bowl, use a hand mixer to beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  • Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir with rubber spatula until just combined. Add the beaten egg whites and gently fold to combine.
  • Heat an 8-inch (20cm) nonstick skillet over low heat. Pour 1 ½ cups of pancake batter into the skillet, smooth out the top, then cover with a lid. Cook until golden brown on the bottom and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Transfer the pancake to a plate and repeat, making 3 more pancakes with the remaining batter.
  • Serve with maple syrup.
  • Enjoy!

3 eggs
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
Dash of nutmeg
1/2 t salt
1 t sugar
6 T butter
Powdered Sugar
Fresh Lemon

Steps:

  • Mix together the eggs and milk with a whisk. Add the flour gradually until completely incorporated. Add the salt, sugar and nutmeg. Use two round oven proof baking pans. (I used my Le Cruset cast iron skillet, you could also use a pie dish.) Melt 3T of butter in each pan in the oven as the pre-heats to 425-450 degrees. When the butter is melted and oven is pre-heated, pour 1/2 of the batter into each pan and bake for 10-15 minutes. The pancake will puff up on the sides and become golden in the center when done! Serve with powdered sugar, fresh lemon and syrup, as desired. You can also serve with fruit, or jam.

2 large eggs, room temperature
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional: Mixed fresh berries, whipped cream, maple syrup and butter

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the first 5 ingredients. In another bowl, whisk remaining ingredients; stir into dry ingredients just until moistened., Preheat griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease griddle. Pour batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto griddle; cook until bubbles on top begin to pop and bottoms are golden brown. Turn; cook until second side is golden brown. Serve with toppings as desired.
