4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 loaf crusty bread, split
3 tablespoons grated cheese, Parmigiano or Romano, optional
Chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Combine garlic, butter, and oil in a microwave safe dish or in a small saucepan. Heat garlic and butter and oil in microwave for 1 minute or in a small pot over moderate-low heat for 3 minutes.
  • Toast split bread under broiler. Remove bread when it is toasted golden brown in color. Brush bread liberally with garlic oil. Sprinkle with cheese, if using, and parsley. If you added cheese, return to broiler and brown 30 seconds. Cut into chunks and serve.

1/4 cup lightly packed fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
1/4 cup lightly packed fresh basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1 baguette

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Add the parsley, basil, salt and garlic to a small food processor fitted with the blade attachment. Pulse the mixture until it's finely chopped. Add the butter and cheese and pulse to fully incorporate.
  • Cut the baguette in half through the middle and open the 2 pieces like a book, cut-side up. Spread the butter mixture evenly on each of the cut sides. Sandwich the 2 sides together and cut the baguette in half. Wrap each half in foil and place them on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and turn the broiler to high. Carefully unwrap the foil packs and open the bread, exposing the buttered sides. Return the baking sheet to the oven and broil until the edges are toasted, about 1 minute. Cut each baguette quarter into 3 pieces and serve.

Pastry for single-crust pie
1 cup cubed bread
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups 2% milk
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim crust to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate; flute edge. Arrange bread in bottom of pie crust. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla; pour over bread. Sprinkle with nutmeg and dot with butter. Bake 10 minutes. 1 jar (12 oz) beef gravy
2 tablespoons chili sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 pouch (4.7 oz) Betty Crocker™ roasted garlic mashed potatoes
Water, milk and butter called for on potatoes pouch
2 teaspoons shredded Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain well. Stir in frozen vegetables, mushrooms, tomatoes, gravy, chili sauce, basil and pepper. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer about 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

12 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cubed, plus extra for the pan
salt
5 garlic cloves, peeled
1 1/2 cups freshly grated pecorino romano cheese (a sharp goat cheese, you can sub. with parmigiano, but it's not the same)
1/2 lb pancetta, cut into 1/4 inch cubes
3 eggs
1/4 cup raisins, soaked in cool water for 30 minutes and drained
10 saffron threads
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1 egg, beaten to blend

Steps:

  • Make the dough: In a bowl, mix the flour and the butter with your fingers until they resemble a coarse meal.
  • Add the salt and enough ice water to make an elastic dough.
  • Shape into a ball, wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 24 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • Bring 1 quart of water to a boil.
  • Drop in the garlic and cook for 15 minutes.
  • Drain and rinse in cool water.
  • Crush the cooked garlic cloves; place in a bowl and fold in the pecorino, the pancetta, raisins, saffron, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper.
  • Cut the dough in 2 equal pieces and roll each out into 1/2-inch thick disks.
  • Line a buttered 10-inch pie pan with 1 disk.
  • Spoon in the filling, mounding it high.

8 ounces cream cheese with tomato and basil
1 lb ground beef
4 ounces shredded cheese
1 (15 ounce) can Italian stewed tomatoes

Steps:

  • Slice garlic bread into eight round slices.
  • Brown meat, add tomatos. Heat until bubbly.
  • Spread generous amounts of cream cheese on four slices of bread.
  • Line bottom of 8 inch square baking pan with bread covered in cream cheese.
  • Pour half of meat mix over the top and cover with half of the cheese.
  • Pour over rest of meat mix.
  • Butter the remaining bread and lay on top of meat.
