Use this recipe to get an ideal buttercream for frosting and borders on cakes, cupcakes, or even cookies.

2 cups shortening
8 cups confectioners' sugar
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl, cream shortening until fluffy. Add sugar, and continue creaming until well blended.
  • Add salt, vanilla, and 6 ounces whipping cream. Blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional 2 ounces whipping cream if necessary. Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy.

1 cup shortening
1/3 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup milk
Red, green and yellow food color, as desired

Steps:

  • Beat all ingredients except food colors until smooth enough to spread, beating in additional milk if needed. Leave most of frosting white; remove and tint small amounts of frosting with food colors for decorating front of house.

This recipe was in a cooking magazine. They showed it on top of bread and a cake. It looked awesome. I have not made it myself. This was used with a Honey Pumpkin cake.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup dark honey
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 3/4 cups butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine gelatin and 2 tablespoons water and let set for at least 10 minutes.
  • Bring honey and sugar + 2 tablespoons water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool 3 minutes.
  • Stir 2 tablespoons of honey mixture into gelatin mixture until dissolved.
  • Whisk remaining honey syrup along with salt and cinnamon into this mixture.
  • Strain into a medium size bowl and beat, using an electric mixer on high speed until double in volume and completely cool, about 10 minutes.
  • Add butter, 2 tablespoons at a time, while continuously beating.
  • Stir in vanilla and use immediately of chill.
  • Rewhip before spreading on cake or bread.

  • Brown butter: In a light bottomed saucepan, add equal-ish sized cubes of butter and melt on medium. Let it brown for about 7-10 minutes or until there’s brown bits at the bottom and it smells nutty. Stir or swirl the pan occasionally. It will froth a bit, but that’s normal. Let the brown butter cool for 5 minutes, meanwhile, make the rest.
  • Cream together: Add all the other ingredients to a large bowl and mix using either a stand mixer or hand mixer. Mix 2-3 minutes before adding in the brown butter. Mix until creamy.
  • Tips: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for 2 weeks. Double the recipe if you want a lot of frosting on your cupcakes.
