GRANDMA'S SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Grandma's Spaghetti Sauce image

This is a recipe my grandma made for years and she never wrote it down until I was learning how to make it. It is a sweet meat sauce. I love it and just wanted to share it with everyone else. Let me know what you think. This recipe makes a lot of sauce. I usually put 4 cups in a resealable plastic bag and freeze for later use.

ONE-PAN PASTA

One-Pan Pasta image

It's one of our most popular recipes and for good reason. This is our original one-pot pasta recipe, inspired by a dish one of our food editors ate in Puglia, Italy. All the ingredients cook together in a straight-sided skillet, you don't even need to boil water first-and it's on the table in just 20 minutes.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Pasta and Grains

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

12 ounces linguine
12 ounces cherry or grape tomatoes, halved or quartered if large
1 onion, thinly sliced (about 2 cups)
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon red-pepper flakes
2 sprigs basil, plus torn leaves for garnish
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
4 1/2 cups water
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Steps:

  • Combine pasta, tomatoes, onion, garlic, red-pepper flakes, basil, oil, 2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and water in a large straight-sided skillet. Bring to a boil over high heat. Boil mixture, stirring and turning pasta frequently with tongs, until pasta is al dente and water has nearly evaporated, about 9 minutes.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper, divide among 4 bowls, and garnish with basil. Serve with oil and Parmesan.

Categories     Beef     Pasta     Tomato     Sauté     Bon Appétit     California

Yield 4 to 6 servings (Makes about 8 3/4 cups sauce)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
2 pounds lean ground beef
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon, crumbled
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon dried basil, crumbled
1 28-ounce can Italian plum tomatoes, undrained
3 1/2 cups water
2 8-ounce cans tomato sauce
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
1 pound spaghetti
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oil in heavy large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté until onion is translucent, about 4 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until brown, breaking up with fork, about 8 minutes. Drain drippings from Dutch oven. Mix parsley, bay leaves and basil into beef and cook 2 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, water, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Simmer until reduced to sauce consistency, breaking up tomatoes with spoon, about 2 hours. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Cover and chill. Rewarm sauce over medium-low heat before using.)
  • Cook spaghetti in large pot of boiling salted water until just tender but firm to bite, stirring occasionally. Drain well. Place spaghetti in serving bowl. Pour half of sauce over. Serve immediately, passing Parmesan cheese separately. (Refrigerate or freeze remaining sauce for another use.)

GRANDMA'S ONE PAN SPAGHETTI

Grandma's One Pan Spaghetti image

This is a great quick and easy recipe that everybody loves. It is a sure crowd pleaser and easy on the budget. You can adapt it to suit any one. Just a great recipe all around.

Provided by Justgettinstarted

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 50m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

8 ounces spaghetti noodles (uncooked)
1 (64 ounce) can tomato juice
1/2 cup ketchup
1 -1 1/2 lb hamburger meat
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
8 ounces fresh mushrooms

Steps:

  • Start by browning the hamburger with the onion, green pepper and mushrooms. ( I use a lid to get the peppers and onions soft).
  • Next, after the meat is brown, the onion and green peppers are soft and the mushrooms have cooked, add the ketchup and tomato juice.
  • Break your spaghetti noodles into thirds, add and stir GENTLY into the sauce.
  • Cover and cook stirring about ever 5-10 minutes for about 30-45 minutes, or until the noodles are done.
  • HINT: You may want to start off by not using all the tomato juice from the can. I usually find that the more noodles you use the more juice you need. I like mine filled with noodles so I always use much more.
