1 (48 ounce) jar great northern beans, rinsed and drained
2 large granny smith apples, peeled cored and diced
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In large saute pan, melt butter, stir in apples, cook til tender, stirring, about 5 minutes. *Try not to break them up, though.
  • Add sugars, stir til melted.
  • Add ketchup, cinn., molasses, and salt. Mix in well.
  • Fold in beans.
  • Bake at 350 for 1 hour in 2-quart casserole.
  • *If you like a little bit of onion in yours, cook some finely chopped with the apples and the butter. ;).

I got this recipe from our local food pantry. I have not tried this recipe but I'm posting it for safe keeping.

64 ounces canned great northern beans, drained
1 ham steak, cut into 2-inch cubes
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 large sweet onion, chopped
28 ounces ketchup
1/3-1/2 cup prepared mustard
3 cups packed brown sugar

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients.
  • Cook in a uncovered crock pot 8-12 hours or overnight on low heat.

Grandma Smith makes the best baked beans ever. She is not good about sharing her recipes, however. She gave me these ingredients but no proportions. So here is my best guess.

56 ounces pork and beans (van camp's)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup ketchup
1/2 lb bacon

Steps:

  • Mix the beans, brown sugar and ketchup in a baking dish.
  • Pull the bacon apart and place on top of the beans.
  • Bake at 350 degrees until bacon is done and beans are bubbly. About 1 hour.
