Greek Burgers with Tzatziki Sauce image

Hand pattied burgers with Greek seasonings topped with Tzatziki Sauce, onions, cucumber and tomato make these Greek Burgers the perfect summer dinner!

1 ½ lbs 85% lean ground beef (see Note)
½ medium yellow onion (peeled and grated)
2 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp ground black pepper
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground coriander
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
⅛ tsp ground allspice
4 burger buns
¼ red onion (thinly sliced)
1 tomato (thinly sliced)
¼ English cucumber (thinly sliced)
½ c. Tzatziki Sauce (homemade or store-bought)
4 Tbsp crumbled feta cheese
¾ c. plain Greek yogurt
¼ English cucumber (grated)
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
1 ½ tsp minced fresh dill
½ tsp salt
⅛ tsp ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill to medium-high heat.
  • Mix together all ingredients for the burgers in a large bowl. Shape the mixture into 4 equal patties.
  • Cook the burger patties until they're done to your preference, about 7 to 9 minutes per side, flipping once.
  • If desired, split the buns in half and toast them (cut side down) on the grill for a couple minutes.
  • To serve, put each burger on a bun. Top each burger with a slice of red onion, a slice of tomato, a few cucumber slices, 2 tablespoons Tzatziki Sauce, and 1 tablespoon crumbled feta.
  • Stir together all ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Serve.

1 1/4 lbs lean ground beef
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 ounces crumbled feta cheese
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper
4 small pita bread
1 small tomatoes, sliced thin
1 medium cucumber, peeled and sliced thin
1/2 small red onion, sliced thin
1 cup lettuce leaf
1 cup plain Greek yogurt or 1 cup sour cream
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 of a large cucumber, peeled, grated, and excess water squeezed out
2 teaspoons finely chopped of fresh mint or 2 teaspoons dill
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Combine yogurt, shredded cucumber, garlic, mint, vinegar, salt and pepper in a small container. Cover and refrigerate.
  • Combine beef, oregano, feta cheese, onion powder, garlic, salt and pepper in a bowl. Form into 4 patties.
  • Grill patties on each side until desired doneness is reached.
  • Grill pitas for a minute or two on each side to warm.
  • Assemble sandwiches - open pitas, add burger, a dollop of sauce, and any of the sliced vegetables listed above for garnish. Enjoy!

  • Prepare the burger patties by combining all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix by hand then divide into four equal sections, roll each into a ball then press into a 5-inch round patty.
  • Preheat your grill to medium. Place patties on the grill a few inches apart to ensure even cooking. Cook for 5-6 minutes, then use a metal spatula to flip and cook another 5-6 minutes on the other side until desired doneness is achieved. Allow to rest on a plate (covered) for 5 minutes before assembling burgers.
  • Assemble the burger patties on the ciabatta buns, top with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, fresh spinach and arugula, and cucumber ribbons. Serve immediately.
