More Philly Stuff? You got it! Here's how to make a real Hoagie. The word Hoagie came from the sandwiches that used to get eaten by workers over on a place that was nicknamed "hog island" The workers there would bring crusty rolls with Italian meats and some olive oil and they became known as "hoggies" which eventually morphed into hoagie... Now that I've sounded like a Cliff Claven... the only other thing I have to say is don't make this with a soft roll! It has to be a GOOD crusty Italian Long Roll!

2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 hoagie rolls
1/4 lb prosciutto di Parma, thinly sliced
1/4 lb capicola, thinly sliced
1/4 lb genoa salami or 1/4 lb soprassata salami, thinly sliced
1/4 lb provolone cheese
1 large tomatoes, thinly sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1/8 cup shredded lettuce

Steps:

  • Slice the rolls, but not all the way through.
  • Place the vinegar and oregano in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the oil until emulsified.
  • Remove some of the bread from the center of each half of roll.(if desired)
  • Drizzle a little of the olive oil mixture on the bread.
  • Place first the meats, then the cheese in layers.
  • Top with the tomatoes, onions, then the lettuce. Drizzle with more of the dressing, as desired.

1 beef sirloin tip roast (4 pounds), halved
2 envelopes Italian salad dressing mix
2 cups water
1 jar (16 ounces) mild pickled pepper rings, undrained
18 hoagie buns, split

Steps:

  • Place roast in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine the salad dressing mix and water; pour over roast. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until meat is tender. , Remove meat; shred with two forks and return to the slow cooker. Add pepper rings; heat through. Spoon 1/2 cup meat mixture onto each bun.

1 (3 1/4 ounce) whole wheat hoagie rolls
1 ounce fat-free Italian salad dressing
1/2 fresh Baby Spinach
2 slices tomatoes, 5x6 size
1 1/2 ounces smoked turkey, sliced
1 1/2 ounces ham, sliced
1/2 ounce roasted red pepper, cut strips
1/2 ounce banana pepper, slice
1/4 ounce red onion, slice thin rings
1 slice provolone cheese, slice cut halve
1/4 kosher pickles or 1 kosher pickle spears

Steps:

  • . If COLD, assemble sandwich in the following order: bottom bread, 1/2 dressing, spinach, tomato, meat, red and banana peppers, onion, and cheese. Then spread remaining 1/2 of dressing on the top piece of bread and close sandwich (use 2 tooth picks if desired).
  • Cut in half and serve in specified container with pickle.
  • If HOT, assemble sandwich in the following order: bottom bread with meat and top bread with cheese. Cook the open face sandwich in the Turbo Chef oven, (Tornado), for about 40 seconds, or until reaches internal temperature of 165F for 15 seconds.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients in the following order; spinach, tomato, red and banana peppers, onion and the dressing, place the top bread and use 2 tooth picks (if desired).
  • Slice in half (45 degree angle) and place in Grab N Go container or specified container.

1/3 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1 medium ripe tomatoes, very thinly sliced
2 ounces thin-sliced boiled ham
1 ounce thin-sliced sopressata
2 ounces thin-sliced provolone cheese
1 ounce thin-sliced prosciutto
1 ounce thin-sliced genoa salami
2 ounces thin-sliced capicola
1/4 cup marinated hot peppers (or any bottled peppers of you choice, Mancini Fried peppers are recommended) or 1/4 cup marinated sweet pepper (or any bottled peppers of you choice, Mancini Fried peppers are recommended)
1/4 cup thinly sliced purple onion

Steps:

  • **Pick your favorite bottled pepper product.
  • Cut the bread in half lengthwise; open it on the counter.
  • Pull out some of the interior; sprinkle the oil and vinegar over the cut side of each half; distribute evenly.
  • Lay the lettuce on one of the halves; spread it out evenly.
  • Top with 2 thin layers of tomato slices (reserve remaining tomato slices); season with salt and pepper.
  • Layer the meat and cheese, making sure each layer is distributed evenly along the length and width of the bread half.

4 -6 leaves iceberg lettuce
extra virgin olive oil (for drizzle)
1/4 lb genoa salami (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb pepperoni (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb prosciutto di Parma (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb roast beef (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb pastrami (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb capicola (Thinly sliced)
1/4 lb mortadella (Thinly sliced)
1/4 lb mozzarella cheese (Thinly Sliced)
1/4 lb provolone cheese (Thinly Sliced)
1 large tomatoes (Thinly Sliced)

4 tablespoons pitted green olives (Sliced)
salt

garlic powder
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Slice the Italian bread lengthwise being careful not to cut completely through. Open the bread. Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil onto both halves of the bread.
  • Evenly distribute and lay out the leaves of lettuce, Genoa Salami, Pepperoni, Prosciutto di Parma, Roast Beef, Pastrami, Capicola, Mortadella, Mozzarella Cheese, Provalone Cheese, Tomato, and Onion. Evenly spread the sliced and pitted Green Olives.
  • Sprinkle with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Sprinkle with the grated Parmesan Cheese. If you like crushed red pepper flakes, sprinkle with the flakes. Drizzle with Extra-Virgin Olive Oil again. Close the bread and cut in half crosswise to make 2 hoagies.
