With so much chocolate flavor in the brownies and in the frosting, you'd never guess this version is actually healthier than the average brownie!

¼ cup butter
½ cup white sugar
2 eggs
⅓ cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
⅓ cup white whole wheat flour
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.
  • Melt 1/4 cup butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in white sugar, eggs, applesauce, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread into prepared pan.
  • Bake in preheated oven until brownies are just set in the center, 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Combine 3 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and confectioner's sugar in a bowl; beat until smooth. Frost brownies while they are still warm.

1/2 Cup (60g) white whole wheat flour
1/4 Tsp Baking Powder
1/4 Tsp Baking Soda
1/4 Tsp Salt
1/3 Cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
Just less than 1/2 Cup (168g) of honey
1/2 Cup (121g) unsweetened apple sauce
2 Tbsps (28g) coconut oil
1/2 Tsp vanilla extract
1 Egg

Steps:

  • In a microwavable safe bowl add the honey
  • Microwave 30-45 sec (or until liquid-y)
  • Now add in the unsweetened cocoa powder and mix until combined
  • Set that bowl aside and get out a larger bowl for your dry ingredients
  • Add all dry ingredients to the bowl and combine well
  • Set that bowl aside and bring back your honey mixture
  • Add the rest of your wet ingredients to the honey mixture and mix until smooth and chocolatey
  • Now pour the wet ingredients into the dry and combine all of the ingredients until smooth
  • In an 8x8 baking tray add your batter and bake at 350 degrees | 177 Celsius for around 25 minutes
  • Cool in the tray for about 5 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling

1 Tbsp (7 g) coconut flour
2 Tbsp (10 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp baking powder
3 Tbsp (45 ml) unsweetened almond milk
1/2 medium-sized ripe banana, mashed (50 g or 1/4 cup)
1/2 Tbsp (8 g) nut butter of choice
2 tsp (8 g) coconut palm sugar*
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: sprinkle of dairy-free chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Add the coconut flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder to a small bowl, mixing until well combined.
  • Add the milk and mashed banana, stirring until no clumps remain. Add the nut butter, sugar, and vanilla, mixing well to ensure that everything is fully incorporated. Transfer the batter to an 8 oz. ramekin or a small microwave safe mug.
  • Microwave on high for 2 minutes. If brownie has not set by then, continue to microwave in 30 sec intervals until desired consistency is reached.
  • Carefully remove from microwave (mug will be hot!), sprinkle with chocolate chips, grab a spoon, and enjoy!

1 box brownie mix
6 oz soda, of choice
powdered sugar, or cocoa powder, for garnish (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C). Line a 8-inch (20 cm) square baking dish with parchment paper and grease well with nonstick spray.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the brownie mix and soda with an electric hand mixer until well combined with no lumps, about 2 minutes.
  • Transfer the batter to the prepared baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the brownies cool completely, then dust with powdered sugar or cocoa powder, if desired.
  • Cut into 12 squares
  • Enjoy!
