MILK CHOCOLATE TOFFEE BARS



Milk Chocolate Toffee Bars image

These bars take a little extra time to make but are well worth it! Be sure to use Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk (or another brand you are familiar with) for best results. Several people have requested this recipe so I decided to post it and forward them all copies. Enjoy!

3/4 cup margarine
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons margarine
1 3/4 cups milk chocolate chips
1 1/3 cups toffee pieces (Skor bits)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350° (325° glass pan).
  • Grease 9x13 pan.
  • To prepare crust, cream all ingredients until very well blended.
  • Press evenly into pan.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until light brown.
  • Set aside to cool while making the filling.
  • Heat milk and margarine on stove, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  • This will take 5-10 minutes.
  • Spread over crust.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips.
  • Return to oven for 2 minutes to melt the chocolate.
  • Remove from oven and spread chocolate smooth.
  • Sprinkle toffee bits on top.
  • Using the back of a spoon, gently press the toffee into the melted chocolate.
  • Cool completely.
  • Cut into bars before refrigerating.

A chocolate chip cookie base layer is topped with a creamy blend of toffee bits, coconut, and almonds, and more chocolate chips in these rich, chewy bar cookies.

Reynolds Wrap® Non-Stick Foil
1 (18 ounce) package refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup almond toffee bits
1 cup flaked sweetened coconut, divided
½ cup sliced almonds, divided
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with Reynolds Wrap® Non-Stick Foil with non-stick (dull) side toward food, extending foil over sides of pan; set aside.
  • Press cookie dough evenly in bottom of foil-lined pan.
  • Bake 15 to 17 minutes or until lightly browned crust has formed on top of dough. Remove from oven.
  • Combine sweetened condensed milk, toffee bits, 1/2 cup coconut and 1/4 cup almonds. Spread evenly over hot baked cookie dough. Sprinkle chocolate chips, remaining coconut and almonds over mixture. Return to oven.
  • Continue baking 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and coconut is a light golden brown; cool in pan on a wire rack. Use foil to lift bars from pan onto a cutting board. Cut into bars.

1 1/2 cups graham wafer crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 (300 ml) can eagle brand sweetened condensed milk
1 cup toffee pieces
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F Line 13x9-inch baking pan with foil.
  • In a medium bowl, combine crumbs and butter, mix well and press into prepared pan. Pour Eagle Brand over crumbs. Top with toffee bits, chocolate chips and nuts. Press down firmly. Bake 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Cool well before cutting. Remove from pan, peel off foil. Cut into bars.
  • Store at room temperature.

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg yolk
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon salt
⅔ cup milk chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Beat butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk in a large bowl; stir in flour and salt. Press dough into prepared baking dish.
  • Bake in preheated oven until crust is light brown, 25 to 30 minutes.
  • Immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over hot crust. Let stand until soft, about 5 minutes, and spread evenly; sprinkle with nuts. Cool pan on wire rack for 30 minutes.

  • In a large mixing bowl stir together flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add butter and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans and 1/2 cup of the milk chocolate pieces. Press mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle bars with the remaining 1/2 cup milk chocolate pieces; let stand on a wire rack for 5 minutes to soften. Using a table knife, swirl the chocolate pieces and spread a thin layer of chocolate over the bars. Immediately sprinkle with the toffee pieces. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack.
