1 lb raw shrimp
1 ½ tablespoons garlic, minced
2 teaspoons ginger, minced
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
⅓ cup honey
⅓ cup soy sauce
scallion, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Place shrimp in a sealable bag or medium bowl.
  • In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix marinade ingredients.
  • Pour half of the marinade on the shrimp. Save the other half for later.
  • Let the shrimp marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  • In a medium pan, heat oil. Add shrimp to the pan, but discard the used marinade. Cook shrimp on one side for about a minute, then flip over.
  • Pour in remaining marinade and cook until shrimp is cooked through and just firm. Remove the shrimp from the pan and let the marinade reduce.
  • Serve the shrimp with sauce and garnish with green onion.
  • Enjoy!

  • Rinse the shrimp with cold water. Drained and set aside.
  • Heat up a skillet (cast-iron preferred), add the olive oil and butter. Add the garlic and saute until they turn slightly brown, stir in the shrimp. Stir and cook the shrimp a few times before adding the honey, lime juice, salt and cayenne pepper. Cook the shrimp until the honey lime sauce thickens. 1 lb raw large shrimp (cleaned and deveined)
skewers
1/2 cup olive oil
2 large garlic cloves (crushed)
1/4 cup honey
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tbsp melted butter

Steps:

  • Place oil and garlic in a microwave safe bowl.
  • Microwave on high for 15 seconds. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Place shrimp in a plastic zipper bag. Add the cooled oil (and the garlic). Seal bag and mush it up to distribute the oil. Refrigerate overnight.
  • Mix all glaze ingredients in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Place shrimp on skewers. The amount of shrimp to each skewer is up to you. I generally do 4 or 5 per skewer.
  • Preheat grill to medium-high heat (about 400 degrees F if you have a grill thermometer)
  • Grill shrimp about 3 minutes each side.
  • Brush with glaze and grill an additional 2-3 minutes each side. Be careful shrimp do not burn.
  • Brush again with glaze before serving.

It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory while still packing a substantial garlic punch, plus it's extremely fast and simple to make. This recipe uses half the honey that typical recipes use and allows the natural sweetness of the shrimp to shine through. Serve over hot cooked rice or the starchy base of your choice such as noodles.

1 pound large raw shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
2 tablespoons honey
½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 tablespoon soy sauce, or more to taste
1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce, or to taste
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced green onion, or to taste

Steps:

  • Make sure shrimp are fully thawed and well drained. Keep in the refrigerator while you make the marinade.
  • Whisk garlic, honey, ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce together in a bowl.
  • Add shrimp and toss thoroughly with a spatula for 2 minutes until completely coated. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes; toss occasionally while marinating.
  • Brush a large nonstick skillet with oil and heat over high heat until you begin to see small wisps of smoke. Use tongs to immediately transfer shrimp into the hot skillet in a single layer. Set excess marinade aside.
  • Sear shrimp for 2 minutes, then flip over. Dump in marinade and cook for 1 minute. Turn off heat and flip shrimp once more; let sit for about 1 minute. The marinade in the pan will reduce down to a beautiful glaze just from the residual heat in the pan. Garnish with green onion.

Steps:

  • In a large ziploc bag, combine all the marinade ingredients. When everything is well-combined, add the shrimp, squeeze as much air as possible out of the bag, and close it up. Place it in the fridge.
  • Let the shrimp marinate for 30-60 minutes, flipping the bag around once or twice during that time, so that all the shrimp stay evenly covered in the marinade.
  • When you're ready to cook, take the shrimp out of the fridge and let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat; there is no need to add any oil or butter to the pan, as the marinade has enough oil in it to keep the shrimp from sticking to the pan. (If you would prefer to use the grill for these, you can thread them onto skewers and toss them on the grill at this point.).
  • Add your shrimp to the pan in a single layer, making sure they are not too crowded; you can always cook them in more than one batch.
  • Let them cook on one side for about a minute, until they curl up and start to turn pink.
  • Flip them over, and cook for another 30 seconds or so, until the shrimp are opaque.
  • Remove from the pan, and serve immediately!
