Getting kids to eat breakfast is a breeze when you offer them these little bundles of goodness packed with hearty ingredients. The recipe is simple so kids of all ages can help make them. -Bernice Williams, North Aurora, Illinois

Yield 2 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons orange juice concentrate
1 large egg
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 pound bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a bowl, beat butter and orange juice. Add egg; mix well. Combine flour, sugar, cereal and baking powder; stir into butter mixture. Fold in bacon. , Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake 11-13 minutes or until edges are light brown. Store in the refrigerator.

Basic Biscuits image

This is a basic biscuit recipe with baking powder used as the leavening. They're easy to make and go with almost any meal.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup shortening
¾ cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  • In a large mixing bowl sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening with fork or pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour milk into flour mixture while stirring with a fork. Mix in milk until dough is soft, moist and pulls away from the side of the bowl.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and toss with flour until no longer sticky. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick sheet and cut with a floured biscuit or cookie cutter. Press together unused dough and repeat rolling and cutting procedure.
  • Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheets and bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1 can tomato puree
24 pimento stuffed olives, drained and dried
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine
1/2 cup flour

Steps:

  • Position the rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F.
  • Lightly grease a baking or cookie sheet.
  • In a bowl, blend together the cheese, the puree and the butter.
  • Blend in the flour, a little at a time, to form a sticky dough.
  • Drop by tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheet, and form into patties.
  • Press the olives into the centers, and pull the dough up to completely cover.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and serve.
  • Note: Pepper cheese can be substituted for the mozzarella.

1 can condensed golden mushroom soup
1 cup seasoned stuffing mix (prepared as is on box -- I use Peppridge Farm Stuffing Mix, but any kind will do)

Steps:

  • Mix milk and ground meat.
  • Divide into 4 patties.
  • Put 1/4 cup of stuffing in center of each patty.
  • Mold the meat around the stuffing to form a ball.
  • Place in an 8x8-inch pan.
  • Add the soup (undiluted).
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
  • Baste several times.
